But the migration must encompass major architectural changes to the portal software itself, including a move onto SQL Server from the old Web Storage System on the database side. Also, in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, portal pages, which previously were created and managed in the browser, are now created and displayed using Microsoft's ASP.Net toolset.
The company is working on tools to convert existing WebParts, custom objects stored in the portal, over to the new platform, but Ryan acknowledged that not all of them will make the move. Customers who want to retain existing portal content while also moving to the new portal can utilize a "coexistence option," wherein one server continues to run the older version of the software to provide backward-compatibility for that content, he said.
Uh huh. So let me get this straight -- none of the old stuff works on the new operating system. You know the one that says "Do more with less". I guess now I know what they mean by "less"....

Reading the press release it looks like Aptrix will be creating a semi-new product that will tie in with WebSphere and DB2. There is no mention of what will happen their current domino based offerings. Can anybody shed some light on this? I'm currently looking at the Aptrix solution and I really need to know what is going to happen to it in the future.

We are continuing to offer the Aptrix Domino offerings -- they'll be on Passport Advantage later this quarter as Lotus Web Content Development.

Well, ok, the new acquisition isn't in there, but the other products, it is. On a per-user basis, you can buy bundles that include Domino, QP, ST, etc.
