Jabber announces XMPP-to-SIP gateway for IBM’s version of SIMPLE in Lotus Instant Messaging
July 21 2004
A press release Jabber issued early this morning...
Interoperability between enterprise instant messaging applications received a big boost today as Jabber, Inc. announced a planned server-to-server gateway between its own XMPP-based platform, Jabber XCP, and IBM's version of SIMPLE in its Lotus Instant Messaging product. Jabber, Inc. reported that this product launch will provide the basis for additional XMPP-SIP interoperability releases from the company in the months to come.... IBM in particular has a large user base with whom our customers want to communicate and Jabber, Inc. is committed to supporting those needs."Haven't found this on Jabber's website yet, but it was on Businesswire and on Yahoo.

This is great news. Now if IBM could just "encourage" Apple to make their IM client connect to either Jabber or preferably ST my life would be much easier. IBM is ahead of the curve on corporate IM and I'd like them to stay there!

Halfway down the sneak preview for server version of Tiger they indicate that iChat server will be based on Jabber. (http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/tiger/)
Hopefully there will be some tie in with the client.

FINALLY some (potentially) good news for Mac users... ;o)

If you tie this announcement in with the M$ announcements recently, SIP is really starting to pick up momentum. Intra-corporate IM and your IM "corporate identity" should hopefully kick in over the next 12 months.
