Libby Ingrassia Schwarz has some thoughts about Chad Dickerson's column and blogs over the last few days. She reacted pretty strongly to Chad's assertion that they mostly use Notes as e-mail at InfoWorld, and that this is more common than comfortable.

For some reason, Lotus and IBM decided to sell Notes/Domino as e-mail. They've always called Outlook/Exchange the competition and messaging/mail user seats as one of the measurements of success (at least in the past). People think of Notes/Domino as their mail system. ...
However, this causes, I think, more problems than it solves, because in many cases then people really only think of it as a mail system -- which means one, it looks like a commodity that doesn't have any particularly distinguishing characteristics from Outlook/Exchange ...And two, it gets misunderstood and under-used.
I could make a career out of this issue...oh wait, I have already....
I don't want to hijack Libby's topic away from her....so for now, share your thoughts with Libby. I'll come back in a few days and tell you mine.
