Or maybe it went to Duke with a few thousand others...

Apple just released it's new iMac design (I'm writing this on the N-1 generation iMac now...) and it looks a lot like the iPod sitting beside my iMac. Not sure I like it yet, as I don't see how the display can be repositioned vertically like it can now. Still, it makes an impact, which is more than most systems do these days.
Is this your first iPod Ed? Were those pics of your engraved name sent to you in anticipation of the arrival of your first unit? If so, you're gonna love it....

it's my first iPod, yes. I know, I know, not exactly leading-edge of me.
The pics of the engraving were generated on apple.com/store, specifically here: { Link } as part of a promotion that I took advantage of (along with a discount Apple offers to IBM employees).

Hey Ed,
I live in a southern suburb and my iPod took the exact same route from China. I had next day shipping and the damn thing took a week to get here. I expect yours will have done the same by the time it's all said and done...
Either way, enjoy it. I'm loving mine! A great addition to the train ride.

I am waiting for a new PowerBook 17" at the moment and having equally confusing messages from Apple (one email saying it has shipped followed by another saying it has been delayed for a further week). It's been 9 days now and I'm beginning to get fidgety!
You'll love the iPod when it arrives though.

Actually if you check the FEDEX status you'll see "IP Direct Distribution" What that means is your iPod is shipped on a pallet (about 50 iPods on a wooden pallet) from China. The it's routed to be ingraved in Elk Grove, CA. Then it's shipped from CA to your address. It takes one day to go from China to either Alaska or New Jersey (depending on what coast you live on) then it goes to CA then to you. So it really does only take at maximum 5 days. Unless there is a delay in customs in China which happens and can't be avoided.

They ship in bulk to US then your's ships individually directly to you once it's unpacked from the pallet. You should get it on Friday, 9/03 or Tuesday, 9/07 because of the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
Let me know when you've recieved it though. I want to check up on how Apple is doing w/ the IP DirectDistribution supply chain shipping solutions from FEDEX. So email me (plezholla@yahoo.com) when you get it!

My Ipod was ordered on the 28th of september. But Fed Ex is telling me it will not be until the 18th of October!
Why is it saying it will be this long, and is it really accurate?
Thanks

Yo Jerms, No! Its most likely not going to be that long, but...but...it is possible so dont count your chickens before they hatched. I just ordered an iPod from apple, they said it would be 1-2 till it shipped from them...shipped on the first day. Then the ipod got routed through anchorage from SHANGHAI, and the fedex told me it would get there in about 5 days total...
...it took them 2.

So if I am not getting it engraved and I am on the east coast does my Ipod go directly from NJ to me in PA? If so, I would think that would be pretty fast???

Okay, my ibook was shipped on the 26th of July and it's still in china right now, and it's the 30th. I paid extra money for express delivery (1-3 day) and they're saying I won't get it untill Aug 3rd or 4th.... i'm really upset. who do I talk to to get my money back? express shipping, right..... i'm sure.

Did you purchase AppleCare with the iPod? Maybe one package contains the AppleCare certificate.
