With Admin/Developer UK just a little over two weeks away, it's probably time to solidify plans for the informal gathering/"geekdinner" that I proposed last month.  I had hoped to be very specific at this point as to logistics, but my British colleagues seem to have mostly decided to take holidays over the last two weeks, and as such, I haven't found anyone rushing forward to help me plan this thing out.  Thus, I'll just have to take matters into my own hands....and since it's always easier to criticize than to create, I'm sure by this time tomorrow, I'll know whether I'm on the right track or not.

Thus, proposed:

  • Monday, 4 October -- Sunday doesn't work out as the kind H&T Verlags conference organisers are hosting a dinner for the speakers.
  • Anytime after 19:00 -- the conference agenda goes to 18:30 so that seems to make sense to me.
  • Ha! Ha! Bar & Canteen, on the Thames @ 15-18 Clarence Street, Staines

My colleagues were kind enough to show me this place during my February trip to London.  It seems plenty big, has both a pub area and more of a restaurant area, and a huge bar and menu.  On a Monday night, I expect that even if 30-40 people show up, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I'll probably ask one of my local colleagues (Daz or Ports, perhaps) to assist with local queries regarding this.  My shout for one round of beverages...this is not a formal IBM Lotus event, in any way shape or form, but I owe you all at least that much.

Questions or thoughts?

Oh I have one -- you know, I try to be up on my local language skills, but in reading a (mixed) online review about the Ha! Ha! Bar, I see the term "charvers" used multiple times.  Dictionary.com comes up empty, and a google search doesn't quite reveal the meaning of the word itself (though there is a whole "charver dictionary" online).  Help?
