Because IBM Lotus started as a collaborative environment and an email system, it is better placed to bridge the gap between personal productivity and team-based environments.
The workspace features of Lotus Notes, that seemed to be ahead of their time when they were first introduced, may well give IBM a clear advantage in the battle to be the network navigation "go to" destination for users.
Not quite sure how the title ties into the article... the article itself is a discussion of how productivity user interfaces are changing in favor of the portal environment.  Given the comments on the last time that came up, this ought to be interesting ;)
