Network Computing is running a sneak preview review of SharePoint Portal 2003.  This hands-on review exposes some of the disconnects between the product marketing and implementation....

If you are a Microsoft shop looking for a portal and you can live with the severely limited document management, SharePoint might be the solution you've been looking for--the portal can really make life easier. I would not recommend moving to SharePoint without checking out the competition, though, as this is a tight market with excellent competition.
The review also points out the move from the Exchange data store architecture to SQL Server as "good news".  What it doesn't say is that all the SharePoint Portal users need to be licensed separately to use that SQL Server -- adding lots and lots of $$$ to the cost of the solution.
