Adam Brown has discovered the real reason why I'm using TripIt.com to track my travel these days...Notes 8.5 integration!

An example of how I am using this new feature is leveraging TripIT. TripIT is a new Web 2.0 type service that enables me to forward all my airline and accommodation bookings to it. When I email a booking to it the clever team at TripIT somehow automagically reads the itinerary and adds it to my TripIT Calendar. Now I can access my TripIT calendar directly via a web browser or via my Blackberry Bold's browser but I can also subscribe to an iCal feed. ...

So all I do is Add a Calendar, select an iCalendar Feed as the source, enter the URL to my TripIT feed, select a colour, and their you go. Your flights etc are automatically added to your calendar!!  ... Now there is a reason to upgrade to Notes 8.5 when it arrives!
Well, there's more than one reason, but...

TripIt is one of several "Web 2.0" tools that can or will integrate with Notes 8.5. The benefits of tools like TripIt, TwitNotes, and other connections are quite clear.  A lot going on in this space.

Adam has screen shots and all the details...

    And Tripit still does not use SSL (if you try https it will fail), and the login screen uses a simple form that sends your credentials in cleartext. No, thanks; until Tripit fixes this, I won't use it.

    OK, I see you can subscribe to an iCal feed. In 8.5, can you publish your Notes/Domino calendar out to an ical feed? So, for instance, a spouse can see where you are today?

    @2 no, not yet.

    Ed, does your Tripit iCal feed appear in the BB calendar? Thx, Lewis

    Why wait ? Outlook 2007 supports this today ! :)

    @3 - Thanks! I had that question asked and wanted to give an accurate answer.

    In that vein, does "not yet" mean "before R10"?

    @6 it's something we want to do in the future. :)

    @5 But then you'd be using, ugh, Outlook.

    @8.. don't knock it unless you've tried it. I personally find it snappier and has a better overall UI..

    @9 - No phasers here.

    FWIW - I have used it. It's ok. 8-)

    @4 - I havn't figured this out myself yet either. When you Add the iCalendar feed to your calendar there is an option to "View this calendar when offline or on a mobile device". This seems to work for offline use in the Notes client but these documents don't seem to be recognised by the BES server. At the moment I just use the BB browser to logon to the TripIT mobile site to get the details but I definitely would like to have the entries appear on my calendar on the BB as well as Notes. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know.

    @11 have TripIt create an iCalendar feed of your trip and import it into Notes. That's what I did before I upgraded to 8.5...haven't tried out that tick box to "view..." yet.

    @12 That's what I do now, but it's mighty irritating when the timing of just one flight sector changes!

    How timely a post... I just did this today prior to seeing this posting. It is amazing how well it works. As a Mac user, I also have added it to my iCal application. Now with TripIt and Google Calendar, I can't think how much more calendar connectivity I need. I'm sure something will come along soon enough.

    @5 tonyo - So if I upgrade my entire windows infrastructure to support Outlook 2007, I can have this...today?

    @11, Blackberry team has been working with us to make a change to show the federated entries into their ui. Its going to be available in the next maintenance version of their current release.

    @11, Talking to the Blackberry folks, the release in which this feature will be integrated, will be announced by the Blackberry team.

    @17: Any idea if this has happened yet? We just upgraded to 8.5 this week, and I find that ICS calendars added with the "view offline or on a mobile device" option still do not show up on my BES-integrated device. Not sure whether it hasn't been implemented yet, or if maybe we're running an older release of BES.

    Any updates on being able to publish a Notes calendar as an iCal feed? I want to be able to subscribe to it from iCal on a Mac. When iPhone OS 3.0 comes out it will support subscribed calendars (iPhone 2.0 does not). Traveler looks interesting but I have to many personal calendars to have them go away. I use my personal phone for this.
