Alloy by IBM and SAP now shipping!
March 17 2009
Yay! As channel announced last week, the first release of AlloyTM by IBM and SAP is now available!
Congratulations to the IBM and SAP teams -- this has been a tremendous multi-company effort, and our customers are the winners.
What is Alloy?
I posted this video a few weeks ago, but it's worth re-iterating now that the product is available.
All the details on Alloy can be found on IBM's product pages: ibm.com. Alloy by IBM and SAP >

Thats awesome.
Such deep integration with real world backend infrastructure certainly do have a huge potential to strengthen Lotus Domino.
How about tutorials and documentation.
Are any wikis, ibm press books, etc. planed?
I think the 2 can work together from a business point of view.
Have had good experience with using domino as a frontend to SAP Workflow with a then self-build infrastructure hacking domino 7 into a SOAP Webservices consumer.
I see a lot of potential for Domino, if this is getting easier.

Please note a nice thing Ed did in his post.
There is the actual P/N so you can easily find Alloy in our Software Download site.
Before someone starts shooting "this is not the fix to the problem", I know, I know. Ed is working on that but in the meantime I think his posting the product code is a nice and useful thing.

This is great news! Our salespeople are chomping at the bit to sell this, but we are trying to hold them off until we get some technical enablement. Any word on STEWs or other training for partners? Just let us know when and where!

Lisa,
Send me a note.... I will connect you with the product team around technical enablement.

A great addition to the product portfolio. This should really cement Notes in shops with SAP.
Too bad an organization has to have SAP to gain this type of functionality. It would be great to see IBM create an API kit of sorts for the mail template (mainly calendar parts) so 3rd party applications could build functionality directly into the mail template (and keep their Lotus support in-tact).
The SMB (and VSB) market has some of the very same needs but are worlds away from ever having SAP.

Congrats to everyone on the Lotus and SAP sides that worked together to make this happen. Ed, you should make sure Colgate is all over this! I know some people there that are power users of both Notes and SAP, and they've not heard about it.

How can one try it? Does IBM provides SAP VMWare test image to try with?

Interesting. I'd be very interested to know how successful this project will be out in the wild. SAP infrastructures, as with Notes ones vary like trousers, so I'd be amazed if a one-size-fits all pair have been created that actually work!
Sorry for the left-field comparative, but I couldn't resist it.
