So last week, Mike Rhodin made a commitment to announce the ship date for Notes 8 during his visit to Lotus Day in Japan on 31 July.

I checked with my colleagues in Japan, and Mike did indeed make such an announcement.  He announced that the Japanese version of Notes/Domino 8 will ship on 11 September 2007 (eGA).  I am still checking to see if he said anything about the English version.  Until I find an answer to that, I can't say anything other than, here we are in August, and we'll be shipping.  The target is earlier than the end of the month.  And the ND8 launch salestalk for IBMers and business partners is still scheduled for 14 August.

I have a couple more postings on the way in the next 24 hours, but then I'll be out on vacation for a bit.  Don't worry, I'll still be around, but Alan Lepofsky will be blogging away on this site while I'm gone.  I suppose that will only add to the rumour that we're one and the same person.  But I'll be on a beach in the sun and he won't... uh, thanks, Alan!

My entry for the release date pool is 8/15. You've blogged that it would be while you are on vacation, alluding to it being near the end of it. Coming one day after the sales talk seems almost a no-brainer, unless they are anouncing it during that call.

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus....

I pick the 14th. (Would be the 11th but I think they may not want to release it on that day in the US for obvious reasons)

@2 - Yeah, unfortunate choice of exact date. Just two events I'd hate to accidentally have linked in my brain.

@3 I will never forget my wedding anniversary because of it...

    @2 & @3: Ummm... what's the problem with August 11th?

  1. 6  Mitch Cohen http://www.curiousmitch.com |

My money is on August 9 for the release.

@5 - Was that an attempt at humor?

For the record, I'm not bent out of shape or anything. It's just that every time I see that date in print now, one image overrides everything else. It's like seeing 25 December and thinking of Christmas, or seeing 04 July and thinking of fireworks. It's just automatic.

@5 I think they're getting their Augusts and Septembers confused....

@7 No attempt at humor. An attempt at clarification. Ed is saying "here we are in August... The target is earlier than the end of the month", so why are you saying the 11th would be an unfortunate choice?

    Notes 8 *2(to) be released August 16th.(8*2=16)

Yes I had brain freeze today. For some reason I had September 11 on the brain. Sorry about that

  1. 12  Bill Brown  |

@7 Why do some people celebrate Christmas on the same day as Halloween?

Because Dec 25 equals Oct 31!

  1. 13  Joerg Michael http://jmichael.eu |

@7 Nathan, let me guess that you didn't pick your employer based on company name, eh?

  1. 14  Joerg Michael http://jmichael.eu |

Oh, one more thing: My money's on the 15th. Simply because I never got a new ND release for my birthday before.

My baby will not wait that long to be born, not that I wanted to call it R8(especially since its number 3).

So I vote for the 15th too, why else have a BP conf. call the 14th?

  1. 16  Nathan T. Freeman http://nathan.lotus911.com |

@13 - It's Lotus "Nine One One", not "Nine Eleven."

Yes, we say that a lot.

Believe it or not, it's the September that's the mental trigger for me. I spent long enough in Africa that 911 seems like 09 Nov to me.

@14 Joerg - My Birthday is August 11

So I'm hoping for a present in "The New Black!"

  1. 18  Lance Spellman http://www.workflowstudios.com |

I think you'll get a happy birthday too Bob. My bet is Aug 11th. I won't care though, cause I'll be here { Link } on this beach, unlike Ed who will be on a different beach.

    It won't be on Ed's birthday...a shame...but close enough.

What? No 18 comments with "Yeah, Alan is going to be guest blogging!" Ah, the pressure. ;-)

Yeah, Alan is going to be guest blogging!

    LOL!!! Well done Ben.

The development has completed. Notes 8.0 will come soon. I believe it will come out in one or two weeks. Maybe by next week. Enjoy!

  1. 23  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@22 hey, that influenced the betting pool! I notice that release note submissions are still open :-)

  1. 24  Patrick M  |

How about R8 being released on 08/08?

  1. 25  Qian Liang  |

Notes8.0 was signed off several hours ago. Although, there are batch of thinga ahead like webkit verification, ISO image verification, release notes finalization, we are almost there. The final eGA date may be arround 08/17.
