Wow, this is pretty sweet!

After a flurry of heavy voting, our readers have selected their picks for this year's Datamation Product of the Year Awards.  ...

When it comes to total numbers of users, there's no question that Microsoft Office is the 800-pound gorilla of this category. The deeply entrenched Office makes the corporate world go 'round. Given Office's status, it's a major eyebrow raiser that this category was won by relative newcomer IBM Lotus Symphony. Perhaps it's because Big Blue's product is free (that always helps), or because IBM is itself such an established vendor. Whatever the case, consider this vote as a huge upset.

    Hey Ed, Do we have to take your laptop away? Go buy a souvenir instead of blogging - you are supposed to be on vacation right? ;-)

    I saw glimpses of Symphony at LS (my focus was more on Quickr, tho I liked what I saw). I am just now getting the time to download it (the 4 beta), and I am sad to say it is not letting me ("Server not available, error 40). Oh wel, I hope I can queeze out some more time later.

    Good luck to you, Ed.

    I have installed office 2007 in my computer (yes...shame on me)... and boy I like to reinstall office XP... (since like the whole vista / xp rollback...)

    Good story!

    @3 my wife agrees :-)

    @1 Jim, think of it like watching a baseball game during a rain delay. The filler material isn't quite what you tuned in for, but it's interesting enough. I have a couple other things queued up for while I'm away, not just the channel announce for 8.0.1 <grin>
