Do I want to get a MicroSD card for the Pearl?

After rebate, buy.com has a 1GB MicroSD card on sale today for US$3.  It's even shipped free.  So, do I want one for my Pearl?  I can think of various upsides, especially if I want to use some of the phone's multimedia features (do I?).  Downside?  Probably reduced battery life.  I guess for $3 I can't go wrong, right?

    Hard to say. Does your daughter have a doll house with tiny doors that could use a 1 Gb MicroSD doorstop if the Pearl does not like it? Well, perhaps since they include the adapter at the same price, it could go into your digital camera if it does not work out in your phone.

    and I thought when they got under $10 it made no sense not to have one (I now have 3 --One for may Palm TX and 2 for my GPS --one is a backup).

    I don't think I'll buy any more, I'll just wait until they start turning up in the bottom of cereal boxes.

    ok, i bought one. Unfortunately the rebate is limit one per household.

    @2 I don't know about ceral boxes, but I wouldn't be suprised to see them in blister packs in the grocery checkout lane. I remember the first time I saw a calculator sold that way...

    @4 Have the next one sent to your parent's house or your inlaws.

    I bought a webcam for £15 once thinking "for that money I can't go wrong". Right? Wrong. It was rubbish. Mind you, $3 is a lot less than £15.

    I rec'd a 512K unit for $free (after rebate) just 2 months ago. Set your camera up so it loads there by default. Also, the phone can now be a USB Drive when connected, albeit at a pretty slow speed.

    @7 Darren, there is also a big difference between a web cam and an SD card -- an SD card has only 1 function, to store stuff, as long as it does that it's a success.

    They're sold out now. I didn't have a Pearl when I read your post. Now I do (I had to upgrade from my 7100t which was getting flakey and had a bulging battery that had me worried it might explode or catch fire one day.) Oh well. I'm in no rush at the moment, and I suspect cheap ones will be available again somewhere.
