A few weeks ago, Marie Scott and Duffbert started a blog series on the Tivoli Directory Integrator; Mitch Cohen had a recent blog entry, too.  All have written about the current entitlement that Domino customers have to use Tivoli Directory Integrator v6.1.1 along with Domino 8.  One question kept coming up -- what about TDI v7, that shipped a few months ago?

Good news -- I'm pleased to say that the Domino team has been able to do the testing required to update the Tivoli Directory Integrator entitlement to TDI v7 when Domino 8.5.1 ships next quarter.  This is not a formal announcement, but you should see more details when 8.5.1 becomes available.

Thanks Ed! This is great news for current and new TDI and Domino users!

    Hi Ed,

is there a good casestudy for the Tivoli Directory Integrator? I have read about it... but I´m no technican guy... so I would like to check if its usefull for us or not.

TDI videos - use cases. You'll find some nice videos that highlights a couple of use cases here (with TDI6):

The site below shows off TDI7, although not in a Domino context. However, just mentally replace one of the data systems being integrated with Dominp

I hadn't used TDI before Connections and I now see the extensive power. While Directory independence is still on the roadmap (8.5.2?), TDI addresses some of the issues in the short term.

    This is great news.

@3Bernd & @5 David - Duffbert and I are working on a series of articles that will hopefully showcase the potential of TDI in a Domino context. We should have some more materials up on PlanetLotus within the next week or so!

    Fantastic news Ed!

I will inform all the members of the Norwegian Lotus User Group about this :-) So many consultants and customers in Norway are eager to work with TDI 7.0 and Domino Designer 8.5.1 in the same developer UI.

We have been waiting for this decision since you visited us in May at the LSBG convention in Tønsberg. Last week we had a two days TDI 7.0 developer training for Domino Developers and the only unsolved question was the bundle of TDI 7.0, and now that is solved as well.

Again, Lotus and Tivoli are ahead of the competition!

AD is becoming more and more the pinnacle of Windows environments. In these shops TDI is perceived as a work-around for an old, but very important requirement: Directory Independence.... Native integration with AD! When, Ed?

  1. 9  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@8 8.5.2 target. Now looking for customers who will DEPLOY this capability during beta, to ensure that it isn't just tire-kicking. If interested, let me know.

What edition of TDI 7.0 does the entitle you to use? The Identity Edition or the General Purpose Edition?

  1. 11  Johan Varno http://sites.google.com/site/dominointegration/ |

@10 TDI Identity Edition is what Domino customers get

@6 Marie, what about a Lotus Journal article?

@8 How does native integration with AD give us "Directory independence"?

I see no point. Notes has a domino directory built in - use TDI to synchronise directory services.

  1. 14  Duffbert http://www.duffbert.com |

@12... Michael, once Marie and I are done with the series, there's a good chance we'll combine it into one single article and post it there. Thanks for the encouragement!

  1. 15  David Bell  |

@13 - it means independence from the traditional Domino Directory.

TDI certainly provides for the gamut on integration and synchronization capabilities for customers who do not want to go whole hog and have all users and groups in a non-domino directory.

  1. 16  David Price  |

@13 Last week at MWLUG we discussed directory independence and SPENGO (MS HTTP single sign on) and there was strong disagreement over tighter integration with AD. In many of my customers the ability to have one place to manager users, groups, passwords, etc. is appealing because it is perceived as lowering costs. The counter arguement is that linking Domino to AD creates a dependency which may cause production problems in the future.

  1. 17  John Head http://www.johndavidhead.com |

@13 I wouldn't be surprised if Directory Independance supported more than AD over time, such as pure LDAP, but you have to start somewhere. AD is used by most shops in some fashion.

  1. 18  David Bell  |

@16 - the goal here is choice for those who want it, not to force anyone to give up the Domino Directory and only use AD (or other directories as John indicates).

  1. 19  Dale Cybela  |

@9 - Ed Directory Independence feature has been talked about for quite some time. It was originally talked about in 8.5, then 8.5.1, now it has slipped to 8.5.2.

Can we try to ensure that we hit 8.5.2? I have been foretelling its appearance to our management for too long of time, my time is running out. Is there a confidence factor you can put on it for 8.5.2?

    Thanks,

    Dale

I just tried to download V7 from passport advantage. But I wasn´t able to find it... Is there something what IBM must fix/approve in the background for us all?

    @Bernd

Search in the "Associated products included at no additional charge" section. There is the

IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator 7.0 for Lotus Domino 8.5.x Multiplatform Multilingual eAssembly(CR9ZVML)

  1. 22  Matthew  |

Does our Domino 8.51 or 8.52 licencing entitle us to TDI 7.1 as well?
