August 5 2010
This press release came out earlier today...WebSphere Portal, Lotus Domino, Lotus Quickr in a pan-government implementation...
EUROCITIES, an organization connecting the local government employees in more than 140 large cities in over 30 European countries, has chosen IBM software to help its members collaborate on improving social, environmental and economic conditions for citizens. ...Link: EUROCITIES adopts Lotus software for collaboration > (scroll down for English)
EUROCITIES is using IBM software to create a new interactive website that will facilitate real-time knowledge sharing among its members. IBM is providing EUROCITIES with a technology infrastructure which is more reliable and accessible than its previous system. For example, the EUROCITIES system will also help local government members work more efficiently by reducing overheads and e-mail traffic.

Holy cow 140 cities! That's brilliant Ed. Good to see this level of adoption. I hope that creates a lot of employment opportunities for the Lotus-focused folks in Europe.

Just for clarification. The organization itself (Eurocities) has less than 50 employees. Good story.

@Ed - I am correct that there were no Notes clients involved here? Just Domino, Quickr, etc.?
@4 - Less than 50 employees but across 140 cities? How's that work? Do they travel every day?

It has a staff strength of 35 employees , they should use Gmail ..what is the ROI by using Websphere and Notes ...who approved this purchase
The number of 140 large cities and 30 European countries looks big ...BUT irrelevant in justifying to purchase Notes
Good story !!

Read the release properly people, it says the website is for its members (presumably appropriately registered staff from the 140 cities) not simply the organisation's own staff of 35-50.

Anyway it will strengthen Notes-presence in public sector in Europe. Many organisations have given up using Notes and we need this kind of stories.

Thanks for putting it up on your blog Ed!!!!

Great news. Can you elaborate on WHICH IBM Solutions (e.g. Notes, Connections, LotusLive, etc) are the reasons for their selection?
