Farbe bekennen: Lotus Offensive 2007 in Gemany
June 17 2007
I've been tracking a few upcoming European opportunities over the last few days. One follows out of last week's successful Deutsche Notes Users Group meeting. The Lotus Offensive 2007 highlights the effort the IBM Lotus team in Germany is putting into the upcoming Notes/Domino, Quickr, and Connections product launches. Highlights of this website include press articles, customer references, product information, listings of upcoming events (including the German launch of Notes/Domino 8, 24 October, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart), links, and even a "Window sprayer" game.

and for those on the continent quien hablan español, mira esta blog de Josep Alemany i Fruitós. Josep is interested in creating a Spanish Lotus Users Group. I've been in touch with some of my colleagues in Spain about this posting, and hopefully we can put something together.

At DNUG I received to packages of "Farbe Bekennen!" mugs ;-)
After the last yellow Lotus mugs disapeared somewhere in the universe we have now yellow again in our companies kitchen and on our desks - it was about time!

SLUG sounds like a branding exercise GM tried before with the Nova.

Wouldn't it more accurately be "ELUG?"
After all, it's DNUG, not GNUG.

@3 Our group is SLUG, Southeast Lotus User Group but there are a few orgs with the acronym, but we are the only Lotus one, at least in Florida.
Because FLUG just didn't work out.
Ed, If IBM didn't freeze headcount I might have been the one to help him there.

@4 More correctly, in spanish, it would have to be GULE, but it sounds, let's say , ...a bit strange:-)

@1, My german is even worse. Would someone like to translate the directions?
I figured out left/right/up/down to move and spacebar to spray. How do I get to the next level without waiting for the timer to run out?

And IBM's marketing triumphs continue! I wonder who will be the first to make "LOTUS OFFENSIVE" t-shirts available on Café Press?

@Bill: You probably have forgoten the cars.
Spanish user group could take the second letter like SpLUG. Or IbLUG (Iberic User Group). Sounds a bit nicer, (but | and) Portuguese (has to be | can be) accepted.
We might call this maxing out of the alphabet by including lower case letters 'OSGi conformant', which also uses lower case letter and is an important standard in Expeditor as in the industry at large.

@11 - That was sarcasm displayed by our good Microsoft pal.
@9 - Probably the same person filing frivalous law suits to make CEOs and CIOs think open-source software is a bad idea.

@3 I too have problems with the SLUG name! I think almost anything would be better than that!
Although the truth is I think the success will be more dependant on what we can manage to organise. Anyone who fancies visiting Spain and giving an interesting presentation while you're here, let us know! ;-)

In the "Windows Sprayer" game, the goal is to go around and spray paint over as many windows as possible with yellow paint. Hmm, IBM got into trouble with spray paint before: { Link }
My German is a little rusty, what's the point here beyond defacement of other people's property?
