This one was on the back page of the Wall

I've noticed the brand of the gloves - Everlast. Nice touch :-)

Awesome. It is great to see IBM doing ads for Notes! However, due to the boxing metaphor I now can't get the LL Cool J song out of my head! "Don't call it a comeback, I been here for years. Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear... Over the competition, I'm towerin. Don't ever compare... Me to the rest that'll all get sliced and diced... Competition's payin the price... I'm gonna knock you out."

@3,4 Yes, it is.
@Ed. Glad to see that the marketing is clear, and not like "SuperHuman" that everyone thought "Huh?" This spells it out clear, concise, and on message.

Nice clear message -- like the emphasis on security. The text is very clever, it's hard to stop reading once you start.
Best Lotus ad since the Denis Leary ones.
Cool. :)

Re: @8 -- oh yeah. The Denis Leary ads, are those archived somewhere?

Can't wait to see the tv version. Can he duck or moon walk like MS Office?

Now there's something to put on the back of your business cards Mr. Brill :-)

Well done that is sooooo much better than the previous ads.
Mind you I would'nt mind replacing "Next quarters Numbers" with "dumb-ass users" ;-)

This is great to see, after all the talk of Notes/Domino needing advertising.... this is just what we need. IBM advetising a specific product speaks voumes about commitment to the product.. Can you imagine if IBM had been putting this message out 3 years ago... R.I.P Exchange...
Will we see these adds in the UK? This is great... lets see more !!

I love the "All challengers welcome" tag on the end !

Can we get some of those Notes branded gloves?

Stan Rogers http://stanrogers.blogspot.com | 9/14/2005 4:38:57 PM
My favorite part is the clear "a member of the IBM Workplace family" line. Maybe that'll stop the "must migrate" FUD for a while.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm surprised nobody has commented on my mini-banner for ND7 now in the upper left of the blog... I think there are a few more such GIFs/banners if people are interested.
Also, I can make the PDF of this big ol' ad available for download. Tonight or tomorrow.

Nice! I went and scrounged through the newspaper pile at the office (all of our execs and many of our managers have WSJ subscriptions) and was able to find a copy of yesterday's paper. Sure enough, there's the ad.
Anyone want to buy it from me? ;-) Just kidding.
Ed, what would be even cooler than the PDF (or at least as cool) is to make it available for purchase as a real poster. That would be fun to hang up, especially since it's supposed to look like a fight poster anyway.
Also, for commenter #9, Christopher Byrne offered up a link to the old Denis Leary commercials on my blog entry from a couple days ago: { Link } . There are some other good IBM-related ad links there too.

@16 - I entered an internal competition related to ND7, quick quiz thing.
When I got home this week there were a pair of plastic inflatable boxing gloves waiting for me with "IBM Lotus Notes/Domino 7" blazened on them
Pretty cool - I have one hanging from a whiteboard in the office of the customer where we're gearing up to deploy ND7 in the next few weeks.

david bell | 9/14/2005 6:29:19 PM
Oh, and my new signature has a small ND7 graphic that says:
"IBM Lotus Notes Domino 7: Innovate. Collaborate. Dominate"
I especially like the "Dominate" part.

david bell | 9/14/2005 6:35:20 PM
This ad doesn't show the ad campaign signature "Think outside the in-box" - I like that too.
Wow, lots of good stuff, very eye catching as well.

Liked david's idea (21) of tagging signature with the one-liner.

Ed, this is fantastic. Big up to IBM for finally getting serious about pushing N/D on an ad front. And talk about going on the offense!
@19 - It would ROCK if these were available as posters. If there's a whole series, I'd put 'em up all over the office. Heck, I'd even frame one or two version of this for my home.
Anybody else notice that everything in the background is black & white EXCEPT where it's yellow? Nice stylization there. Might have to try something like that on a UI sometime.

Nathan T. Freeman | 9/15/2005 4:01:51 AM
@3 Hey Alan... get it here: { Link }
Actually, using this tune in ND7 campaigns would be great. Way better than "I Am Superman." Might need to leave the line about his jimmy out, though. ;-)
That'd be calling the competition out on the floor, wouldn't if?

"Beyond Email. Beyond Calendaring. Beyond Belief"
I like it!

Colin Macdonald | 9/15/2005 5:26:02 AM
Nathan and I would be fighting over who gets what poster over their desk :)
Seriously Ed, this is the best news I've had for a while and I sincerely hope this will re-ignite the Southern African N/D market which has been a bit down recently.

Gary Roberts http://www.DominoHelper.com | 9/15/2005 6:24:24 AM
Ed -- this is great!!!!
Where do I get the boxing gloves? Those would be fantastic items to hang on the cube!
One question -- In my mind, this ad finally removes a LOT of confusion about Notes & Workplace -- why did it have to get mucked up with the "Middleware" word in it? Was it just to retain some of the traditional confusion? Is Notes now considered Middleware? Or is Workplace Middleware? To me, MQ Series (and other software that runs in between "systems")is Middleware. Now I'm confused again.
I hope to be able to make it down to Columbus today to the CONDUG Meeting -- you can straighten me out then! ;-)

THIS IS THE COOLEST NOTES/DOMINO AD EVER EVER EVER!!!
I agree with Julian- I want a POSTER FOR MY OFFICE WALL. I will absolutely buy it if it's made available. please please please???'
I want the gloves too- I'll make a frikin shrine in here. I'm constantly being told I need to "not be so passionate" about Notes. This will help me to make sure I keep getting told that, LOL.
Come on, Ed- make the poster and the gloves available for purchase!!!
Oh, I also want the little ad for my blog (which is in a cocoon currently- should spring forth this weekend)
thanks,
Tom

Why not have them at Lotusphere?
Now if Ed could get keep the Lotus links from disappearing or moving further away from the public on the web site, that would help too!
I was caught off guard yesterday when I tried to hit the forums for an answer. The Delopers link off the home page to the forums had disappeard! Now you get to it from waaaay over on the right under "Related resources". The developers link now shows everything BUT Lotus. :(

That's exactly how I feel when I take over a Domino app.
One honest man in an ocean of garbage.

Tim Cuculic | 9/15/2005 2:33:50 PM
@19 @24 @29 I agree. As soon as this ad is made available in a poster (A0 or bigger), please let me know. I want 6 to hang around the office, and 2 more for my house.

Echoing all the comments above, Ed. I'm knocked out by it ;-) Great to see the much maligned IBM marketing machine finally doing a damn wonderful job of advertising our beloved Notes...

@18 Ed, any chance we'll see the PDF version of this ad available for download soon?
