Uninstall AND reboot before the install :-) ... that is what I did yesterday and the install was fine.
It is much faster, cleaner, and smaller. And for those wondering, you can open dbs from the Admin client and "right dobule-click closes window" is in the preferencs :)

yep , it's much, much better. Definitely uninstall first, I didn't and it was a mess.
@2 first thing I tried was the open db from Admin :-)

Ed,
Most impression with the loading speed on my machine. They fixed the problem that I posted which is very good. When you shut down Notes there seem to be a lag between the Notes window closing versus when the actual complete closing occurs. Other than that, the development team has done a good job in improving the speed and fixing bugs.

If only my connection here at the office weren't so slow, I'd be trying this out too.

The install actually says to uninstall beta 2 of the client, reboot and install. The server can be overlayed with the new beta version

I uninstalled beta 2, however my systems is giving me an error that says notes8_w32_beta3_prod is not a valid win 32 app... any ideas?
Thanks

Rich,
have you checked zje filesize? This error often refers to a broken download.

Is IBM planning on releasing a Notes 8 Mac client?

@9 in 8.0.1. Windows and Linux in 8.0.0

Perhaps I'm off here, but I'd have thought that IBM would want people testing upgrade installs, though certainly I can see wanting prior 8 beta's to be cleanly removed and reinstalled.
There is some work to be done with the 7->8 upgrade - definitely didn't do what I hoped. Time to remove and reinstall.

err... OK - it just took way longer than I expected for the workspace/getting started to show up. for a beta that is COMPLETELY acceptable.

is there a notes single sign on? Or is it planed?

David Bell | 5/24/2007 3:17:20 PM
@13 - single sign on is in there - just like Notes 7.

Having downloaded Windows Server, AIX Sever, Linux server, all Windows clients, I want to thank from the bottom of my heart whomever built IBM Download Director. It is a wonder at downloading code. Second honors go to whomever worked out having dual and separate servers for Windows, AIX and Linux on what I am sure is a VERY busy day.

Try the Linux..... It's written for SLED 10 but I run it fine on RHEL5. Since you're not going to get support for a beta anyway, try it on your favorite distro. I have it on Ubuntu too.
So not to start a flame war about Designer and Administrator, here.... But I can tell you that, for standard desktop use, having Notes 8 means I can finally live in Linux 24x7. I bet you or your customers could too, much of the time. That makes a lot of things interesting.

Followed the uninstal tip.
Full client Installed fine.
MUCH faster.
Lost a couple of Designer toolbars, easy to fix.
So far stable, Beta 2 could be crashed twice a day.
Now going to look to see if import is working correctly.
Great work.

Only tested briefly last night.
The Weekly Calendar views in the Eclipse version are still as they were in Beta 2 - i.e with timeslot boxes - and I still can't stand them! Can I make another plea to have the Notes 7 style weekly views back, at least as an option? This single issue would be enough to keep me on the Basic client.
Cheers,
- Mike

Can I just say that Beta 3 is MUCH MUCH faster - almost (IMHO) as fast as 7.0.2. Very very nice.
The development team deserve big Kudos for this.

@10, re: Mac client, when is 8.0.1 planned for? 4Q07? 1Q08? Thx!

Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com | 5/29/2007 12:00:58 PM
@21 - target is around that time period (late Q4/early Q1)

Igor Jablokov http://www.yapme.com | 5/30/2007 10:46:45 PM
@22 Great that it's planned given the tremendous enhacements! We'll proceed with 7.0.2 for the time being...
Will BES support from the RIM folks follow shortly after 8.0 GA?

FYI, there were about a dozen comments on this entry earlier, but I had to recreate it.
The only one that seemed important was yes, I would recommend you uninstall the earlier beta before installing this one.
