IBM.com: Blogs go to work

October 18 2006

IBM.com has an extensive feature on the notion of corporate blogging....right on the home page of ibm.com!  The link goes to this page called

 "Blogs go to work":

I guess there's no question of IBM's support for my blogging efforts, is there. :-)  A very cool webpage that highlights things like IBM's blogging guidelines as well as the new blogging feature in Lotus Notes 7.0.2  Each blogger was interviewed and provided answers to five good questions about blogging.  Each of us was asked which non-IBMer we read regularly -- shout-out to Peter O'Kelly from this homeboy.

It's great to see IBM take some thought leadership in this area.

    WOW! I work here and even I'm impressed with IBM for doing this. And "To blog or not to blog - Lotus Notes software gives you the choice" right on the main page! Well done Ed, and the rest of the team that put this site together. (yes, touch of jealousy here!)

    Hi Ed,

    I have just set up my new blog based on the out of the box blog template that comes with Lotus Domino Server 7.0.2. It took me next to no time to get it up and running.

    I put a video clip (which talks about a company I migrated from Microsoft Exchange to Lotus Doimino Server) on to Youtube and have been able to easily integrate it with my blog. Go Youtube .... my free streaming media server!

    If you want to take a look at my blog you can go to the following address { Link }

    Rats! Doesn't show up on { Link } yet (IBM Canada - English) Easy enoughto "switch countries" though, no passport required...

    I love this: "IBM’s official, corporate position is: adherents of either view need to chill a bit."

    Nice article.

    The page seems to be broken. I see the images, but no text in my browser.

    I must meme my take on this new IBM approved grammar.

    Hi Ed,

    Do IBM use Roller and WebSphere as the backend to their corporate blog system ?

    Val.

  1. 7  Ben Poole http://benpoole.com |

    IBM's standard internal weblog software has always been Roller, yes. Don't know whether it's on WAS or not, but I should think so.

    Like my employer, IBM use Atlassian's Confluence, which is an enterprise wiki. This features basic weblogging also.

    @6/7 right. The Roller implementation predates the acquisition of the Dominoblog template. There is some interesting stuff going on for IBMers and the blog template, but I don't want to steal thunder...

    Is there a non-Flash version?

  1. 10  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

    Yes - plain HTML at { Link }

    There is a PDF too at { Link }

    Thanks to Andy Piper for those links.

    I saw the PDF, but I couldn't find the HTML and it's not linked from the Flash version or the ibm.com homepage. For what it's worth, I find Flash UI's to be pretty, but ultimately frustrating. My biggest problem is that you can't right-click them to open in a new tab, all you get is a Flash player window.

    Anyway, thanks for the links. :)

    Exciting! Only thing I'm left wondering, is how someone "memes their take" on anything. But oh well... I otherwise really love how IBM has presented the whole issue. Wonderful job!

    The link in the directory for Mary Beth Raven's blog needs a correction.

    It currently leads directly to a posting from back in May of 2006.

    The link should simply be:

    { Link }

    It is presently:

    { Link }
