The first IamLUG is over. The event was a huge success, thanks to the organizers and sponsors. Special thanks to Chris Miller for his vision and leadership in putting together a well-attended event that reached a number of new faces and organizations, and strengthened the Lotus community at the valley between Lotuspheres.
In this 8-ish minute podcast, Chris talks with Kevin Cavanaugh, the event's keynote speaker, and me about our impressions of the event, as well as some details on the new "Lotus Knows" marketing campaign. On that last topic, I want to make one thing a little clearer -- we brought "Lotus Knows" to IamLUG because the Lotus community deserved to hear where we are at with this effort. If we stuck to schedule, we probably would have waited a week or two longer before announcing it publicly -- get more details in place. So there are understandably questions, some of which don't have complete answers yet. The Lotus Knows Jam the week after next is the next piece of the story to come into play, and we'll have more to say in that in the coming days as well.

I have been a Lotus/Domino developer/manager/director since Beta v3 in 1993. I have dedicated my career to Lotus and enjoyed every moment of it. The steady downturn in the Lotus market has been very disturbing and attributed in my mind to the "Decisions made on the golf course". Way too many top level executives are swayed by Microsoft with false promises, and by the time they aware of the trap they have fallen in, they are far past the "point of no return". I am very excited to hear of your marketing plan and will contribute my efforts to your cause.

Thank you, Chuck. I shared your comment with the "Lotus Knows" marketing team. Exactly why we're doing this.

Thanks Ed. I have been quietly standing by, watching and waiting for some sort of a movement from IBM and I am very thankful and hopeful about the initiative. Honestly, the last media blitz I recall about Notes was probably the marketing plan during the Olympics, years ago when Notes was the technology behind the scenes. I want to see Notes retored to its position at the top of the market, where it belongs. It is no easy task, as it seems there are many "Notes haters", mostly because they don't understand the technology or don't realize what it can provide for them out of the box or with some "elbow greese". Many companies can benefit from exploiting their current investment in Notes instead of spending it twice. Once to move from Notes mail to Exchange and second to support the Notes Applications they can't get rid of on their application servers. I'll make my circle of Notes supporters aware of the initiative and see where it leads.

Thanks to you both for speaking, sticking around to talk to everyone and spending the few minutes to talk and help clarify some questions people had asked
