Today, IBM is introducing Lotus Foundations.  Foundations is a line of small-business servers, installed on-premise, and providing a broad set of IT and business functions.  The first set of capabilities of Foundations include the Domino mail and collaboration platform, file management, directory services, firewall, back-up and recovery, and office productivity tools.  Foundations, while not branded Express, is targeted in the same small- and medium-business market segment as the IBM Express software offerings.  This is one of several SMB-focused moves being announced today, as Lotus intensifies its presence and focus in this market.

    Now this is huge...!!

IBM/Lotus should have launched a serious initiative for the SMB market years ago. It's really too bad IBM gave up so soon on it's Linux for small business. Hopefully there is some serious support in upper management. Lotus Foundations is something I have been wait and cajoling IBM/Lotus for years.

I would like to see a comprehensive set of Redbooks and patterns for Lotus Foundations. It would helpful if IBM/Lotus established a BP customer council to help get some realistic solutions. Calling a 3 server smb is unrealistic to say the least.

If IBM/Lotus is able to execute then there is huge opportunity.

Bob Wong is right when he says that BP's need to sell more that Notes/Domino. There needs to be much more cross pollination/collaboration among all IBM BP's and divisions.
