Ironic bull
January 25 2006
Funny that Microsoft's latest project to take out Notes is code-named "Red Bull". I had three people stop me after my "Boss Loves Microsoft" session and tell me that the real Red Bull (as in the beverage) is a Notes shop.

It was a good session as always. I've always wanted to know what the reaction is of the MSers that are present and what comments, if any, they make to you afterwards.
Sitting here waiting for your session on your session with Libby start and hopefully it will be as good as the first one. And you've started talking so I should start paying attention. =)

Despite this being Lotusphere week, and MS launching it´s Red Bull campaign, this whole thing is in danger of turning into a childish feud. I hope IBM keeps on competing by offering real solutions to real problems, and does not sink down to MS FUD tactics.

Red Bull is indeed a Notes shop, in the UK they did some really cool stuff with PDA integration using Commontime MForms. The partner involved in that was Bluetrail { Link } they published a couple of case studies { Link } and { Link }

Aaaarrrgggh! e-Week is so frustrating! With Lotusphere in full swing, the front page of the Collaboration section of MS-Week oops sorry e-Week is STILL headlining this RedBullSh*t thing, with narry a mention of Lotusphere AT ALL!! My fears have been confirmed that e-Week is completely in the pocket of MS. It has become so obvious it must be embarassing to them to cover MS so rabidly, yet coverage of any superior competition to MS is blindly averted. Check it out --->{ Link }
Want more proof? Try this...
e-Week search results
"Domino" - 305
"Exchange" - 2781
MS-Week indeed. I need a Redbull and Vodka...

Generally, I think eWeek gives MS a hard time and keeps them on their toes. They are constantly running pieces on Firefox adoption, how to replace Office with an alternative, Linux and Java etc.
But, when it comes to collaboration you are spot on. It all seems to revolve around Outlook and Exchange. Very Strange.

Hmmmmm . . . . . I wonder how long it'll be before Redmond files a lawsuit against Red Bull over the name :-)

I figured that the name was because you were going to need a lot of the drink if you wanted to use the product
(for those of you that don't know Red Bull is an "energy drink" -- the kind of thing that you swill cans of while you attempt to recode your Notes applications in .NET)

It was an interesting name, though:
Red = wounded, or in the case of racing, 'stop right where you are, hazards exist ahead' (interesting message to give to someone planning a migration to MS)

Bull = (I think we all know where this is going, but Wikipedia says BS is "a common English expletive meaning "humbug" or 'nonsense'. It implies that the purveyor of alleged nonsense is willfully lying, or that he is speaking boldly from ignorance.")
