    great news, right on time.

I expect a large wave of production deployments of this release.

  1. 2  Jim Casale  |

    Great news!!!

The question for me is how do I tell my wife I can't go the Broadway play tomorrow night as I will be downloading 8.0.1 :-O

Hmmm on second thought, me thinks I should go to the play instead.

  1. 3  Peter LaComb  |

That should make this the fastest transition from Gold Candidate to Web posting I've seen in a long time (if not ever)

  1. 4  Jim Casale  |

OK, I really need a life..8.0.1 just went Gold Build.

  1. 5  Mark Dowling http://cork2toronto.blogspot.com |

Ed, I understand roaming support in the Standard client will come with 8.5 rather than 8.0.x - is there a proposed timeline for this version?

  1. 6  Alan Bell http://www.dominux.co.uk |

couldn't see in the announcement, does 8.1 have productivity editors based on OOo 2.x or are they still derived from OOo 1.1.4?

Or will I just have to wait until tomorrow to find out?

  1. 7  Denny http://www.sherpasoftware.com/blogs/SherpaBlog.nsf/  |

    Awesome news.

  1. 8  Steven  |

Had to laugh at the Hardware Requirements section:

    Microsoft(R) Linus (Notes(R)Platform: Windows(R) client only)

  1. 9  René Winkelmeyer  |

    It's boogie time...yeah, yeah, yeah... :-D

  1. 10  John Head http://www.johndavidhead.com |

@6 Alan, 8.0.1 includes what is Lotus Symphony Beta 4 (or something very close). The naming shows up as Lotus Symphony, not the IBM Productivity Editors.

IBM has not given any timeline to when Lotus Symphony will do any code merge with OpenOffice.org 2.X. It is not in 8.0.1 or the current Lotus Symphony beta. I would not expect it for a while, but that is just a personal comment not an official IBM statement.

  1. 11  Pankaj Sharma http://www.shreecement.net/sysadmin.nsf |

    Great news......

  1. 12  Bill Medley  |

    Awesome news!!!

  1. 13  Marco Foellmer http://www.ebf.de |

    great news, thank You.

please IBM not not forget modify the sametime config of extst.ibm.com to allow the new client id.

    thank You.

  1. 14  Ove Størholt http://www.inforte.no |

So what am I doing up now? :-)

Better get some sleep now as tomorrow night I will not...

  1. 15  Ed Brill http://pwww.edbrill.com |

@5, scheduled for late this year.

  1. 16  Nelson Morris  |

It's on Passport, but not fully yet. Only one item is listed in the eAssembly so far.

I guess in the a.m it will Nerdmas.

  1. 17  Bill Malchisky http://www.EffectiveSoftware.com |

Still in that mode... one file listed.

  1. 18  René Winkelmeyer  |

It's there - download is going on... :-D

  1. 19  Mike Burford  |

One of the additional benefits of being on this side of the world (NZ) is getting in early on the downloads when there's decent bandwidth available - and the "File not on Server" errors stop popping up! :o)

  1. 20  bill mccuistion  |

What? No Tagalog release? Might as well cancel those Rosetta Stone lessons....:)

  1. 21  max  |

@19. It´s all I get, "File not on Server" :/

  1. 22  René Winkelmeyer  |

@21 - Try US Site for Download - not Ireland.

  1. 23  Danilo  |

    Downloading client :-)

But where is the admin client?

  1. 24  Ben Rose  |

@23 - MIA it would seem.

Don't worry, it's not like it's the first thing you should upgrade ;O)

  1. 25  Danilo  |

    Found ... in the Designer ... :-)

  1. 26  Mika Heinonen http://siipi.com/mika |

Domino 8.0.1 x32 and x64 downloads worked fine from US Site 2.

US Site 1 had only 50kbs download speed, while US Site 2 had 110kbs. Ireland downloads were all missing.

Domino 8.0.1 for Linux file was missing also, even on the US Sites.

I think IBM should give first priority to Linux, then AIX, then Windows and Mac. Also Lotus Traveller was a big disappointment since it runs on Windows Mobile only, also here IBM should give first priority to Symbian Mobile devices.

  1. 27  Diego Ogniben  |

    Bravo Danilo :)

  1. 28  Ben Poole http://benpoole.com |

"I think IBM should give first priority to Linux, then AIX, then Windows and Mac. Also Lotus Traveller was a big disappointment since it runs on Windows Mobile only, also here IBM should give first priority to Symbian Mobile devices."

And your rationale for all this is...?

  1. 29  Kerr  |

    @28, rationale? You jest, sir!

  1. 30  Flemming Riis  |

-Lotus Traveller was a big disappointment since it runs on Windows Mobile only.

Its a ISV dream go make it yourself and sell it.

  1. 31  Jeroen Jacobs  |

Is there a full client package (client, designer, admin) available ?

I can't seem to find it on the Business Partner download site...

  1. 32  Ben Rose  |

@31 Admin is included in the package labelled just as Designer. The "designer" install on the site is actually the All Clients build. Not the first time these have been labelled badly.

  1. 33  Charles Robinson http://cubert-codepoet.blogspot.com |

@28 - You must not have gotten the memo. Forthwith the only acceptable Domino platform is a 16-way pSeries running AIX, and the only acceptable client platform is Linux (preferably Ubuntu so you can rant about the lack of official support).

  1. 34  Irv Schor  |

Will QMRs (8.0 > 8.0.1) Updater be available? I don't see them yet. Looking for 8.0>8.0.1 Domino on SUSE Linux updater. Thanks all.

  1. 35  Mika Heinonen http://siipi.com/mika |

@33 - Wow, I'm impressed! That is exactly how I would like to see things develop too.

  1. 36  Dag Kvello  |

    :-) :-(

Well, not to rant about the lack of Symbian support again in Traveller, but rather the "Apply for the free Traveller licence with Your Passport ID and we'll se if we bother to send You a REAL download link whenever we get the time".

Problem is, We're Business Partners and thus have no Passport ID.

I have to beg customers to apply so that I can get access to it for testing.

It sort of reminds me of the brilliant decision by MS to NOT give access to Vista SP1 to their MSDN Partners (wich pretty much pissed everybody off).

Oh, and a little rant to #30, It doesn't really seem fair that WinMobile users get this function for free and integrated and that Symbian users will have to wait 6-12 months for some ISV to make a client that they have to pay $200 a piece for each phone they want to use.

  1. 37  Flemming Riis  |

-It doesn't really seem fair that WinMobile users get this function for free and integrated

Life isnt fair, with all the ISV out there it would be funny not se see a Symbian version for a resonble price in the future.

-It sort of reminds me of the brilliant decision by MS to NOT give access to Vista SP1 to their MSDN Partners (wich pretty much pissed everybody off).

Yeah but they learned fast and fixed it.

  1. 38  Andreas John  |

"Server busy, try again later" :-(

  1. 39  Dag Kvello  |

#37 Well, I've said this before, It'll only sell Windows Mobile devices. Nothing is reasonable if the US (WinMobile rules) get it for free and everybody else has to pay.

It's cheaper and easier to just dump Your Symbian devices and buy a HTC instead (if the normal pricing of mobile clients is anything to go by). This, of course, gives MS a foot in the door where they didn't have one.

  1. 40  John Cawrey  |

ach, @25, I have been refreshing all day waiting for the Admin/All client installer to appear.

Well spotted. Guess I should have known from the filesize that it wasnt just a Designer client.

  1. 41  René Winkelmeyer  |

    Got "my" first bug...very bad...

When displaying multiple values (with new line separation) in columns they are sometimes displayes as single value.

I just reported it via Partner Business Forum...

  1. 42  Tom  |

Has anyone found the 8.0.1 Mac client ?

  1. 43  Sean Harris  |

@42 Look for the Mac 8.5 Client https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/preLogin.do?lang=en_US&source=swg-ln8mac

  1. 44  Tom  |

@43: That's Beta software. I was expecting (based on all the hype) that there would be a Mac client available when 8.0.1 came out. Please don't tell me I'm wrong...

  1. 45  Sean Harris  |

@44 They are skipping 8.0.1 for the Mac and going right to the Mac 8.5 Client instead.

  1. 46  Ben Poole http://benpoole.com |

@44, Sean's correct. Although initially IBM talked about releasing the first standard Mac client in the 8.0.1 timeframe, this changed slightly, and we got the 8.5 beta instead.

However, it's a GOOD beta, I would definitely recommend you give it a try.

  1. 47  Kerr  |

@46 Bae, I've probably just not been paying attention, but what features does the mac 8.5 beta have that are not in 8.0.1? Has there been any talk about new features for the 8.5 client? Maybe there isn't any. All the news seems to have been about the server and designer. Just curious, I've been waiting a long time for the server and designer updates and if nothing new is added to the 8.5 client I'll be happy if that means they are concentrating on new server and designer features.

  1. 48  John Head http://www.johndavidhead.com |

@47 They have not annouced any new 8.5 client features. There was talk at Lotusphere about new calendar functionality, but nothing is set in stone. The 8.5 release is focused on the server and Domino Designer on Eclipse are the focus.

  1. 49  Volker Weber http://vowe.net |

Ben, while I agree with you that 8.5 Mac is actually quite usable and without obvious shortcomings, IBM still calls it "Macintosh - Alpha preview (Notes client only)". I continue to call it beta, although I believe that IBM may have two good reasons for their name:

    - it does not have any 8.5 features

    - nobody should expect it to be delivered before 8.5 ships

  1. 50  Ed Brill http://pwww.edbrill.com |

All,there will be new client features in 8.5, but John is right that it is primarily a server and developer release. Mary Beth Raven has been discussing potential new features for 8.5 on her blog.

Mika, you do understand that ibm is in business to make money, right? Windows is a market reality, and preference in some organizations. It has to be and is a first tier platform.

  1. 51  Charles Robinson http://cubert-codepoet.blogspot.com |

@35 - Mika: I was making fun of you, actually. It's less funny now that I had to explain it to you, but that itself is funny.

  1. 52  Mika Heinonen http://www.siipi.com/mika |

@50 - Ed, yes I know how Windows has spread like a virus, and Microsoft makes business, not really much else (compared to the competitors). I hope IBM doesn't go the same path and just make business, but also value innovation and improving technologies. So far IBM has done very well on that area, please don't make it go just business and no quality/innovation/technology.

Windows will for sure keep existing for (too) long time, and big companies will keep using it, if nobody even tries to improve things. Just sitting there and using Windows doesn't really help anyone, except the purse of Microsoft.

I've made my client clear that they have a business case for switching 20 windows servers to 1 power6 server. The cost of running on a System p is about 8 times smaller than running on windows servers (I made an automatic financing calculation sheet today for that). The client said also - even before I showed him the calculation - that they have a business case, IF System p indeed is that powerful. Tomorrow I will get a more info of a limited time testing environment on a high-end p570 (from a company who trains IBM employees), that's the only way to prove how fast it really is.

  1. 53  Mika Heinonen http://www.siipi.com/mika |

@51 - Don't worry, I knew exactly that you meant it as a joke. But the real joke is that it's not a joke, that is really going to happen, at least I am doing everything in my power to make it happen, or at least to make the evolution start, and hoping that others will follow.

  1. 54  Martijn de Jong http://ibm.ilionx.com |

So where's Traveler? Looked at the 64-bit server but it's not there. Is it in the 32-bit windows server package?

  1. 55  Volker Weber http://vowe.net |

    IBM has decided not to include Traveler but make it a separate download where you have to prove your entitlement first. See { Link }

  1. 56  Cesar Zavala  |

We use LEI, and I'm seeing all LEI 8.0.1 versions except for the iSeries one, which is the one that we use.

Do you know who should I contact? I'm hoping it's a mistake and not that this product will be released later.

    Thanks for any help/pointers.

  1. 57  Andras Horvath http://lotusszoftverek.blogspot.com |

Have you ever seen any Quota info in your Lotus Notes client? Here you are! Try in Lotus Notes 8.0.1. It's cool.

  1. 58  Ben Poole http://benpoole.com |

@47, none that I can see. The 8.5 beta client appears to have that numbering to bring it in line with the client versioning for Windoze I guess. As a Notes client, it works well. As a full-on Notes *platform* (i.e. like 8.0 / 8.0.1 on Windoze), it falls well short of course (composite apps, Domino Designer, and all that). But that has always been a given, so no great shakes there.

  1. 59  Scott Leis http://www.isw.net.au |

Just noting the DeveloperWorks "update status page" still shows the status of 8.0.1 as "gold build"; it hasn't been updated to "web posting".

  1. 60  Kevin Mort  |

So this is odd. Download 8.0.1 and on install it tells me it can't upgrade my 8 install.

Says the upgrade isn't supported....what's up with that?

  1. 61  Stuart McIntyre http://blog.collaborationmatters.com |

@60 You need to download and install the same version of 8.0.1 as the 8.0.0 you have installed - i.e. if you have 8.0.0 All Clients (i.e. including admin and designer), then you need to upgrade with the 8.0.1 Designer package. Likewise, if you just had the standard client installed first time, upgrade with that.

    Seems reasonable to me.

I was at a "Lotus & Beyond" event for IBM BPs here in the UK yesterday, and the demo of LiveText/Widgets (recognising an address and populating a Google map) had a previously cynical BP scribbling furiously and raving about the possibilities in his customers. It's the small things ;-)

  1. 62  Daniel Neveceral http://Support symbian |

    why support symbian?

because symbian Symbian leads with 65% share, ahead of Microsoft on 12%, RIM on 11%, Apple on 7%, and Linux at 5%

    see source { Link }

  1. 63  Hans Bornich  |

I was surprised to learn that the Notes Traveler Servertask is only available for windows based Domino servers :(

We have quite a few i5/OS customers... Any plans to address that?

  1. 64  Mika Heinonen http://siipi.com/mika |

Domino 8.0.1 x64 destroys the NSFDB2 interface permanently, it doesn't even work when downgrading back to Domino 8.0.

  1. 65  Roberto Boccadoro  |

    @64 - RTFM ?

From the Release Notes : Domino 64-bit is not a supported Domino and DB2 configuration.

I know most of geeks do not read manuals, but maybe before trying something potentially dangerous it should be done sometimes.

    RoB

  1. 66  Stuart McIntyre http://blog.collaborationmatters.com |

    @65 LOL

Could someone in IBM please get the extst External Sametime Gateway enabled for use with Notes 8.0.1? It throws up the "temporarily unavailable" message when you try to connect, but Sametime Connect 8 works with all the same settings...

    Thanks!

  1. 67  Mika Heinonen http://siipi.com/mika |

@65 - I didn't find anything saying that Domino 8.0.1 x64 does not support DB2. Do you have a link where I can read this info?

  1. 68  Ben Poole http://benpoole.com |

@67. Like Roberto said, it's in the release notes. Specifically, Chapter 2, "Installation, migration, upgrade, and configuration information" in the section entitled "Domino and DB2 - server requirements".

If you don't have the release notes, you can get them here:

    { Link }

  1. 69  Roberto Boccadoro  |

@67 - Is in the Release Notes database. Look in the section

    Domino Server

-Domino and DB2 - server requirements

  1. 70  Nelson Morris  |

@69 I've asked IBM to merge better the release notes and the infocenter. Some of the information is illogically split between the two.

  1. 71  Lee Sweet  |

Anyone having issues downloading from Passport? I've tried for hours to use the Download Manager, and it keeps refusing or timing out. Now, with http downloads, I'm getting about 400 kbit/sec. On three 400 MB files, that will take some time... :)

  1. 72  Ben Rose  |

@71 - It's a busy site, but I'm informed that there would be no improvement if it switched to BitTorrent ;O)

  1. 73  Lee Sweet  |

@72 In the past, though, I've gotten a whole release (Client, Admin, Server) in under an hour. I'm looking at 8 hours now... :) I can't believe it's all of us. Perhaps it is. If so, that's good!

  1. 74  Kevin Mort  |

@61 - Thanks you might be right there. Totally possible I checked off a different package. This was via Pworld Sfw so they're all there...

  1. 75  max  |

@36//Well, not to rant about the lack of Symbian support again in Traveller, but rather the "Apply for the free Traveller licence with Your Passport ID and we'll se if we bother to send You a REAL download link whenever we get the time".//

Ok I´m off skiing for a week, maybe I´ve gotten an approval-link when I´m back.;-)

  1. 76  Charles Robinson http://cubert-codepoet.blogspot.com |

@72 - I wouldn't be surprised if rogue torrents started popping up. :-D

@74 - It doesn't help that they completely changed the name of the "all clients" install to just say "Designer". Your confusion is completely understandable.

  1. 77  Charles Robinson http://cubert-codepoet.blogspot.com |

@72 - I wouldn't be surprised if rogue torrents started popping up. :-D

@74 - It doesn't help that they completely changed the name of the "all clients" install to just say "Designer". Your confusion is completely understandable.

  1. 78  Kevin Mort  |

@77 - Charles, you're spot on there. Went back and found that to be the case exactly.

Pulled that file, now happily running 8.0.1. : )

  1. 79  Pete Janzen  |

@56 LEI 8.0.1 for System i should be available for download within 24 hrs.

  1. 80  kimmy  |

ok, so the one that says "designer" is really the 3pack? with eclipse?

===>" IBM Lotus Domino Designer 8.0.1 for Windows XP and Vista English(C19U0EN)"

argh. and, anybody know how to get eclipse on a stick? (notes usb)

  1. 81  mike  |

@79 - I can't find ANY LEI downloads ? What title do they fall under ?

  1. 82  Pete Janzen  |

    @81 Lotus Enterprise Integrator

    Here are the p/ns

    e-Assembly: CR6S3EN

    Windows: C18XVEN

    Windows 64-bit: C19DLEN

    AIX: C18XWEN

    Solaris: C18XXEN

    Linux: C18XZEN

  1. 83  Asheer Singh  |

    Hey,

Does anyone know where I can download the Lotus Notes 8.0.1 Update from? I do not have access to the IBM Genuine Advantage Service so am unable to download it from there. Any help or link to the download will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Ash
