"This service is temporarily unavailable." Ed-Dotting at work here?

  1. 2  Carl Tyler http://www.iminstant.com |

    I get the same error.

  1. 3  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

Weird, I checked it just now in both IE and Firefox, and both worked for me.

Here's the link again just in case:

Did you log in and try downloading? The link works, but not the actual ability to download it.

    And coming soon...

"How to use the IBM web site for Dummies"

The book will be 3,333 pages. :-)

@6 - But don't search the IBM site for it. You'll get 5,234,234 hits returned, 10 at a time....

    8-)

    @5 - translation "merda"!!!

OK - enough about the IBM website. Back on topic. Sorry for the distraction.

Worked just fine for me. You may want to give it another try.

@8 grazie, but I didn't want to be accused of understanding Italiano.

It says free, but are we free to distribute this to all the licensed ST users within our organization and/or post it on our internal support web page? BTW... Stuff like this is just what we need, First time we've seen anything like this for the everyday since the R5 launch. Not sure why were WANT to call our folks dummies though.

  1. 13  Adam Gartenberg http://www.adamgartenberg.com |

@12 - It's "free" for you to download, but our licensing with the publisher doesn't allow you to distribute it within your organization or post it on your internal web page, I'm sorry to say.

If you do want to order in quantities of more than 1 book at a time (but in all likelihood quantities that would stop before a large enterprise/agency-wide rollout), your IBM sales rep should be able to help. And for those without an IBM sales rep, please feel free to drop me an e-mail at the address above.

This is a brilliant idea-- whoever came up with it should be commended. I've worked on similar projects (including a book for Ford on their then-new CAD system) and it's a great way to drive end user awareness of features that they can productively use.

    The download is working now.

@6 - I had a Cafepress shirt made that said "Certified IBM Website Navigator" and wore it at Lotusphere. A few IBM'ers read it and gave me withering looks, but I thought it was funny. Nobody else commented on it.

  1. 16  Carl Tyler http://www.iminstant.com |

    It just worked for me.

    Hi Ed,

Your original post said that the PDF download was free which implied that the hardcopy edition cost. It seems to me like the hardcopy is free too!

    ... while stocks last

    Rob

@13: Thanks for the update. If memory serves me, we did pay for 6500 copies of the Notes 5 Step-by-Step User's Guide PDF file. We’ll get with our rep.

@17: It DOES look like the book is free as well. After I clicked the hard copy link I got this: "Thank you for ordering 'IBM Lotus Sametime for Dummies, Limited Edition'. You will receive an email confirmation once your book has been shipped."

The one thing is does not tell you is it also updates your IBM Support Profile so it now says "This person is a self-anointed DUMMY".

  1. 19  Adam Gartenberg http://www.adamgartenberg.com |

@17 - Yes, the hard copy edition is also available for free (Act Now! While Supplies Last!)

link works, but after entering password, answering the questions I finally got the error "Page out of sequence" Whatever that means exactly - no download at all :-(

I'm a little confused about this licensing thing. IBM is giving the PDF away for free to anyone who registers, so I could have every user in my organization register with IBM and download a copy. But I can't download it myself then share it with my users, that would be a violation of the license agreement.

Could someone dumb this down for me? I just can't make this make sense.

I got the hard copy a couple weeks ago in the mail. Needless to say I immediately gave it to an exec as a nice book to understand the importance of IM in the enterprise
