Lotusphere 2007 online is online
January 10 2007
Registered Lotusphere attendees can now access the online system at www.ls2007online.net. Check your e-mail for your user ID and password.
Inside you'll find a fountain of information, including:
- The location of the Wednesday night party -- Animal Kingdom (cool!)
- An update on parking for Dolphin/Swan hotel guests -- nothing in life is free anymore
- News about the "mini-keynotes" for social networking and unified communications
- A completely-empty discussion forum (at least at the moment)
There will be a lot more added to Lotusphere Online as we go...so keep checking back.
I've had one report this morning that IE7 isn't working with LS online -- does anyone else see that?

I am honestly p****d off by the parking new rules. IMHO 199 US$ (plus taxes) a day are more than enough to cover for the permission to park. Charging 9 bucks every time you get "in & out" is simply a robbery.

The center portal is not appearing in IE7 on Vista RTM. It comes up with a message that the portlet could not be displayed because the browser does not support iFrames.

@3 looks like the portal software is performing a browser sniff rather than an object sniff. Works ok in firefox though.

@1 - I haven't received my email yet and registered very early as well.
@2 - Last year I complained when I checked out and they waived all of the parking charges.

Can confirm the "your browser does not support iFrames" message with IE7. I think the current "work around" is to make a registry change so the browser is reported as IE6, even though it's IE7 :-)
Also.. The posting totals on the LS Online forums aren't updating, when I saw all the zeroes I thought I'd be able to be the first to post something (a small but pleasing triumph), but this was not to be.

Seems kind of sluggish, but that might be my connection too...

Cesar Zavala | 1/10/2007 9:02:18 AM
Just to confirm that it doesn't work in IE7 (using both Vista Ultimate and XP here).
@5: Thanks for posting a solution, I was a little irritated but I knew that I'd find a solution in this site :) Switched to Firefox and I'm online now.

How are you guys getting logged onto Lotusphere Online? I expected an e-mail with my UserID/Password (which has been the case for previous Lotusphere conferences). I called Lotusphere Registration Customer Service (888-568-8744) to ask when the e-mails are going to be sent out and was told that there were no plans to send the UserIDs/Passwords out via e-mail this year. I would have to wait until I registered in Orlando and received my badge. So, is the Lotusphere 2007 Online website available to just the IBMers until on-site registration?

@12 most people I know got an e-mail this morning. No idea why they said they aren't sending them out.

@13 - I guess I was either too impatient or just needed to "stir the pot" a bit. After calling registration support and submitting a trouble ticket from the Lotusphere Online login page, I received my e-mail within 30 minutes. BTW, the registration support person had no clue that UserIDs/Passwords were being e-mailed. They indicated that I wouldn't receive my login info until I got my conference badge.

I wanted to stick a fork in my eye using that Lotusphere Profiles view... trying to guess where a name might appear in the listing by jumping to a page. Then I happened to scroll down and realized there is a search box (People Finder). Those five minutes I spent guessing page numbers... I'll never get back.
Okay. Just wanted to point that out. Put the fork down, and scroll.

The site does not work properly with Microsoft IE7. This is a documented bug (see IBM link below). However, in preliminary testing, it seems to be operating with the Microsoft IE7 User String Utility (see MS link below). The utility sets a single browser session to emulate IE6 so the Portal server will recognize the browser.
IBM WebSphere Portal support statement for Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7-- { Link }
Microsoft IE7 User Agent String Utility -- { Link }
I hope this helps!

"Lotus Sametime All the Time"?
Only if you're using MSIE.

Opps, I should clarify. The welcome page uses STLinks, but this does not work in Firefox.

Did anyone notice that there are 4725 profiles listed on the profiles page (15 per page x 315 pages). Does this indicate that there are 4725 people registered for LS2007 as of now?????
- 25
Cesar Zavala | 1/10/2007 12:46:49 PM
@24 I know of at least a friend that subscribed late on December that is not being listed now (I searched for her). She has her confirmation email and those things, but I guess she hasn't been added to the Profiles.

Greetings:
I just spoke with Lotusphere Registration, who informed me that username/password emails will not be sent -- you must wait until you arrive at the conference and get your badge.
Based on the dialog above, this sounds incorrect. Just a heads-up for anyone who decides to call and ask for it!
Cheers

P.S. No, I did not get my email for Lotusphere On-line!

@all update - They've added a note that IE7 is not supported to the front page of Lotusphere online.

Gregg Eldred http://www.ns-tech.com/blog/geldred.nsf | 1/10/2007 1:16:13 PM
If that 4725 number is correct, then Ben's Lotusphere Sessions DB:
{ Link }
has been downloaded by about 80% of the attendees (3749 as of January 2). That is pretty impressive (assuming one per person).

But Websphere Portal has a fix for the IE7 iFrames error according to { Link } Why isn't this implemented?
Web Page Portlet iFrames not displaying properly Available (PK32995 for 5.1.0.4 and PK36413 for 6.0.0.1)

@23 - ST Links is working for me in Firefox. I had to give it a few min the first time (same experience when I tried from IE).

Sean Harris | 1/10/2007 5:13:57 PM
@2 I totally agree with ya. Must be a new Starwood policy. The Disney owned facilities are not charging this.
@29 Hey Amy, good to hear from ya. Is Bill gonna let you Gary and Charlie go this year?

"A completely-empty discussion forum".... that is based on DomBulletin of course!!! :-)
- 33
Kevin Mort | 1/11/2007 7:23:48 AM
@31 - I wouldn't necessarily pin this on Starwood per se. The Swan & Dolphin are conference facilities which in some cases could allow transient/daily parking (which as I recall they do not allow for LS). The Marriott World Center does the same as far as I remember.
Many of the other properties for LS (Carib Bch, Port Orleans etc) have no parking fees at all. Although I don't know about the couple others near the Swolphin - Boardwalk & Yacht/Beach.
Not saying it is right, but just my idea on why it is that way.
K.

Sean Harris | 1/11/2007 11:17:40 AM
@33 - All I'm saying is, Starwood owns the Swan and Dolphin, Disney owns the remainder of the properties. All of the properties contain conference facilities. According to Roberto Starwood is charging a parking fee on top of their room rate, Disney is not. Charging for parking if you are not staying at the resort is acceptable, but, IMO, is not acceptable if you are a resort guest.

@31 Thanks! Gary and I will definitely be at the sphere. Haven't spoken to Charlie, but as far as I know, he won't be attending.

Sean Harris | 1/11/2007 12:44:52 PM
@35 Well I hope to see you there. You're certainly missed in the BPForum :^ (
- 37
Kevin Mort | 1/12/2007 9:21:59 AM
@34 - FYI actually Starwood does not own the Swan & Dolphin. They are both managed properties owned by another entity altogether - Tischman I believe.
I agree the practice isn't exactly guest friendly, however, my point is that this is not an uncommon practice at all. In fact I would say industry wide it is in fact very common.

The site is down now. Temporarily or switched off until LS08? I hoped to be able to use Connections for some more days...

Jack Neary | 2/18/2007 11:08:34 PM
Yup... It's been down for the count for several days now... dang. I wanted to download some more presentations...

Charles Robinson http://cubert-codepoet.blogspot.com | 2/18/2007 11:15:43 PM
Ah crap! I didn't get to download ANY of the presentations!!
- 42
Alex | 2/23/2007 2:04:09 PM
@41. I didn't have a chance to download while I was there. When you get back you have to catch up. When I had a moment this week, it was so disappointing not be able to download to the presentation. At least that portion should be kept for at least a month afterwards.

Are they sending the notifications in batches like they did last year? I haven't received mine yet and I registered in early October.
