Lotusphere 2009: Lotus Symphony Developer’s Workshop
January 8 2009
Back by popular demand...and new and improved with a focus on the LotusScript API. This will be up on the Lotusphere website shortly...
Notes Developers and Business Partners have been waiting for a Lotus Symphony LotusScript API -- it has arrived! This hands-on workshop teaches the participant to integrate Notes and Symphony applications with the new Lotus Symphony LotusScript API.Register at this link: Lotusphere 2009: Lotus Symphony Developer's Workshop >
With the API model and documentation structure similar to Notes or SmartSuite LotusScript API, Notes developers are going to easily and quickly be productive. Participants learn how easily one can access Symphony using LotusScript, and manipulate the most frequently used objects (paragraphs, tables, fields, charts, datapilots) in document and spreadsheet applications using LotusScript.
Upon completion, participants should leave a solid understand of how to control Lotus Symphony with Notes using LotusScript API.

@1 John, it's not available yet, but coming soon. As for a Java API, you can already do quite a bit with the Java UNO API today plus the Eclipse stuff you can do with the plug-ings and composite apps. The LotusScript API just gives the Notes developer a way to automate symphony without needing to learn UNO. The Symphony development map will get much more serious in 2009

Re Java, my understanding is that the UNO API is pretty nasty learnin curve-wise.
If you just want to do import / export, JodConverter looks to be a good bet (m'colleague Mark Myers reports good results with the JodConverter JARs).

This is interesting.
So with this Symphony API can I create a spreadsheet, populate the cells, set fonts, column widths, add sheets, etc. much like I can do with the MS Office/Excel and COM automation?

@4 Mike, that is the goal. I am showing off a beta version at Lotusphere, and it is not complete, so I am not sure when you will have complete feature parity. You can do a bunch now, but not as much if you use the UNO COM bridge (how we automate OpenOffice.org today). The other issue is Symphony is still adding features (like mail merge and true pivot tables) and the API's for them in LotusScript are not complete. 2009 should be a fun time with this API as its updated :)

@2 Do you know where and when it will be available for download?
I was hoping that IBM Lotus would release a Java API as well so we could get by without the UNO interfaces ;o)

Is the Lotus Symphony LotusScript API and documentation available for download now?

Where can this Lotus Symphony LotusScript API and documentation be downloaded from? Will it be downloadble from LDD Lotus Symphony page ({ Link }
Will there also be an equivalent Java API sometime soon?
Will the API be delivered with Notes client in upcomming releases?
