Lotusphere Comes to You, Manila
April 20 2006
Talk about a Thrilla-in-Manila....
About 360 people turned out for Lotusphere Comes to You in the Philippines
today. A first class event, and Iris Hester Tan, John Victoria, and
the rest of the team did a most excellent job of putting it together.
While the content was similar to the other 170 LCTY events, the opening
session in Manila had an impressive kickoff. Filipino rock band Rivermaya
opened with a song called "Posible" (from their "greatest
hits" album), a tribute to the Filipino knowledge worker. IBM
Philipines Joaquin Quintos then welcomed the crowd before handing it over
to me for the keynote. IBM is growing its presence in the Philippines,
more than doubling in size by 2008. Pretty cool stuff.

So now I'm up way too late and LCTY here in Singapore starts early in the
morning. The streets will be filled with Lotus yellow -- more on
that tomorrow.

While I'm happy I got a pair of boxing gloves from the Portland Oregon LCTY, I have to think our version of the event was lacking somewhat in production values... :)

@Duffbert,
You mean "I begged and begged the LCTY hostess....."

I didn't *beg* anyone... I just mentioned that I thought the gloves were a better item to win than the iPod, and it went from there. :-)
