Well I guess this is one reason for so much defense...

IBM Lotus' recent Lotusphere event for Notes/Domino customers, partners and the press did much to allay the confusion and concern in those communities over IBM's plans for Notes/Domino and the new Workplace platform, according to The Messaging Technology Report from the industry analysts at the Palo Alto, Calif-based Radicati Group....
Even so, Radicati concludes, Notes/Domino will lose market share as IBM focuses on Workplace, and Workplace will grow only slowly among both current and new corporate customers. ". . . Neither Lotus Notes/Domino nor Workplace will help IBM catch Microsoft in the messaging collaboration market anytime soon."
David DeJean had me reaching for the dictionary, but he found exactly the right word: desultory.  The directional information seems to portray the IBM Workplace and Lotus story consistently with reports from Lotusphere, but the conclusions seem disconnected from that story.  And of course, it's out of sync with analysts like Gartner, Ferris, Burton's Peter O'Kelly, and others, who have had incredibly positive things to say about/since Lotusphere.
