I received two recommendations to check out the Miniatur-Wunderland museum in Hamburg today, and it was definitely a worthwhile stop.  Imagine two floors of train sets and miniatures...with many of the items motorized, trains running constantly, even the daylight/night time cycle played out.  Now imagine this setup done by people who pay incredibly close attention to detail, and have vivid imaginations.  Then add a dose of fun, and you get this:

Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg

Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg

You've got to click through and check out the original size 3000x2000 pixel images....you'll be amazed.  I was, for easily 90 minutes.  And I have to sort through many, many more pictures to get another 20 to upload.  That will be at the other end of tomorrow's flights....I'll be back home tomorrow evening.  For now, auf wiedersehen and gute nacht!

Growing up in Baltimore, we called these "Christmas Gardens" and the annual trip was made to a variety of train shows, fire halls and a shopping mall or two to see their displays.

I would start putting mine up Nov 1 or so each year.

    Good times.
