The Midwest Lotus User Group was a successful event here in Chicago a couple of weeks ago.  Video and slides from my keynote presentation are now available online on YouTube and SlideShare respectively...embeds/links below.  The keynote was not so much my "normal" Notes/Domino update, but a specific focus on how important the Notes/Domino ecosystem has become to the products' success in 2009 and beyond.

Sorry about it being in pieces, youtube only allowed me to upload 10 minute videos.

Anyone have a better way i can put it up someplace as one video I will be happy to move it there.

Hi Ed, it was a very good presentation.

What struck the most was the "empowering the user" is back. Since release 6 especially, it's all about how us admins can squelch our users. (Not that all squelching is bad - not letting users kill their mail file like they could by default in R4 is a very good squelch.) Having started on the development side first, this is a very welcome shift. I am not your typical admin, I'm for giving users Full-text indexes so that "searching works", I like the inbox to auto-refresh, give them a mail template higher than R5 even in R8. I hate to hear people I meet to say Notes sucks when their admins have concentrated on setting a record for number of users on a box or because of mail template hacks or internal politics or limitations are still using a 1998 mail template on a 2008 server.

Having you say you probably will name Notes 9 something else causes me some pause as it's a mixed bag. We seem to always be the same, but we do a lot of re-labeling. We have iNotes -> DWA -> iNotes, NNN -> DNN --> NNN, NAB --> PAB --> DD, and Database --> Application, to name a few. I hope we are at least keeping the Notes and Domino branding for the client and server respectively. Otherwise, change can be VERY good. Have at it...

    :-)

@1. I think youtube is the way to go. Broken into pieces isn't a bad thing anyway. It makes it easier to watch in small bits as I have time.

@2. Can I hear an Amen! Don't forget QuickPlace-> Quickr and Sametime-> ? -> Sametime. Right up there with "New Coke" and Gatorade->"G"

If you're going there, I would offer that Notes should be declared an operating system. When you look at what it does, it fits most definitions, eh? Notes, in and of itself, does nothing. It is the applications run in it that provide value.

Ed, I got a lot out of the presentation too. You get so much more info out of a visual presentation than if it were just the transcript. (idea: could you video blog more like this?)

Glad to hear the success of the Lotus Knows IdeaJam, especially about getting it to the youth.
