John Fontana captures key points from the IBM press conference and analysts:

"One of the reasons that this is a remarkable release is that many people thought they would never see it," says Peter O'Kelly, an analyst with the Burton Group. "Many thought that Notes would be taken out in favor of Workplace."

Mike Rhodin, the newly named general manager of IBM's Workplace, Portal and Collaboration software, once again reiterated that IBM/Lotus is committed to Notes/Domino.

"There has been lots of speculation, mostly fostered by our competition, that there is a major migration in the future for Notes/Domino users but nothing could be farther from the truth. We have been carefully engineering this roadmap so that all Notes/Domino applications are protected and can move forward."
