I'm glad that someone finally realized there is a meme here...

In the pantheon of controversial Microsoft comments, CEO Ballmer's quote this week about the Apple iPhone...ranks right up there. But between Ballmer and Chairman Bill Gates, that comment would be hard-pressed to crack the Top 15 all-time most controversial or even colorful things the two of them have uttered in the past 20 years or so.
My contribution to that list would have to be the point in 2005 where Gates claimed that Exchange had 75% market share, which at the time was overstating by about 30% according to the mainstream analysts.  OK, so puffery isn't so unusual at MS, but that one is notable because of Microsoft's follow-up clarification (comment 25 in that thread), which said "The data that Bill Gates referred to is one very specific way of looking at the data."  Yeah, one very specific way.
