A new feature has appeared in the Notes 8.0.1 calendar meeting entry form, quite a useful one in any organization that uses conference calling regularly...

Image:New calendar entry form feature in Notes 8.0.1

I never seem to remember my "permanent concall number".  Now, I will, and there won't be any typos or misunderstandings when setting up virtual meetings.  The conference call information is stored in the calendar profile, so I only had to enter it once.

This is really great work by the calendar team -- and I've been told it's another John Lance innovation, thank you, John!

    Nice...I worked on a similar customization for a 3rd party vendor last year (plus a little more for branding purpose). Part of what I did was to store it in the calendar profile as well, as a default number that could be overwritten as well.

    The big challenge we faced was getting an revised invitation sent out if the conference number changed.

    Nice. Always get inconsistent information on call numbers etc. when doing these. Perhaps this will help improve the ability to easily enter these calls. Speaking of nice new entries on the calendar form. Wouldn't it be nice to have the ability to flag transport time when entering an appointment. A "grey" zone around an appointment that can be used to flag that you are unavailable, but still not hide when you are actually in a meeting. I don't know if this conflicts with standards, but it must be possible. Tired of doing three appointments for every entry I make....

    Very nice. As the saying goes, "It's the little things that mean a lot."

    Ditto Henry's comments. Little things can have a big impact.

    can you create an calendar-entry for 2 Days?

    (From Mondy 01/21/2008 11:00 to Tusday01/22/2008)?

    Bravo! Thanks for the update Ed. Nice touch that will go a long way to making users enjoy Notes even more.

    Now, if we can just get travel and prep time slots on the meeting and appointment forms to ensure that the calendar is properly blocked, we'll have really happy users that actively rave about the product.

    And as I read above, I see that @2 is also in the same camp. =) Ciao.

    How about my request for the "Tentative Decline"? I was hopeful for that one.

    Darn, I had this all queued up to blog about ;-) (I think I still will in a few weeks ;-) )

    I'll add another voice to the travel/prep time chorus. I've heard plenty of requests in my office for the same.

    @8 needed something to break up the Lotusphere drum beat... :)

    @Ed,

    I would have to say "drum line" instead of drum beat ;-)

    so the big question is 'When?' any word yet on a Release date?

  1. 13  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

    @12 this quarter, but to set expectations, it's not going to be at Lotusphere.

    Prior to this feature being added in 8.0.1, I've been using Alan Lepofsky's "Paste Information" application. Having this feature integrated in the Notes calendar is more efficient

  1. 15  Alan Lepofsky http://www.alanlepofsky.net |

    @14 I agree completely, but thankfully Paste Info can also be used in a lot of other situations :-)

    @7, I second that request for 'Tentative Decline.' I believe I've mentioned it before too on Mary Beth's blog. Any plans to include this in 8.01?

    Great option - Now if we could just get a "lag" feature for bump-in and bump-out on resources (ie: time to set up before and then clean up a room or return a resource after) Calendars in Lotus Notes would really have something to brag "now do that in Outl**k"...

  1. 18  Christopher Byrne http://www.controlscaddy.com/ |

    @7, @16 - I am not sure what benefit "tentative decline" would give a user that is not addressed in "tentative accept"? Could you expand?

    @18 - Interestingly enough this was discussed in May 2007, on this blog: { Link }
