Via Alan, news of a new book on upgrading to Lotus Notes/Domino 7.  Alan's blog entry covers a full list of resources for upgrading to ND7.  The upgrading book looks like a great resource -- written by a combo of IBMers and early adopter customers.

Rocky just blogged about how our marketing colleagues are seeking ND7 deployment references.  I've looked at a list of our largest customers, and many were waiting for 7.0.1 to begin rollouts.  What about you?

    I was waiting for 7.0.1 to get started. I have the CCB paperwork ready to submit. Just need to upgrade the first test (R5) servers and run them through testing.

    Why? Fear of the x.0 release partially. Also, we got started really late moving from R5 to R6 (6.5 actually) that I'm expecting a "why do you want to upgrade so soon after the last round?" argument to get through too.

    I was waiting for 7.0.1 to! Why mostly becaue we wanted to get all server up to 6.5.4 before we started - but it is also a little bit to avoid the .0 release...

    I have ordered the book you mention... I noticed it by accident the other day so I went ahead and ordered it right away.

    We have just updated our names.nsf template to 7.0.1 today and will implement it in production by the end of this week... Then we will upgrade two "almost production" servers to start testing applications and the new mail/DWA...

    We're moving to 7.0.1 on the servers... have to convince the desktop group that the client is worth bothering with. I think the AutoSave feature is probably one of the most compelling reasons.. that and lack of training since the changes are so minor on the client.

    Nice to see theres a book of this information.

    However a minor peeve about commercial groupware/messaging systems is the dearth of *freely available* upgrade/deployment information. For open source solutions you can find plenty of online references to deployment, updating and patching, real world scenarios etc

    For Notes & Exchange it seems to be one of those things where the knowledge is tied up with people who already use it and know it inside out but don't put their experiences online for others to leverage. So it looks like a closed community - which is not a good thing.

    Eg Domino clustering is a work of genius but there are few idiot proof walk throughs on how to set it up from start to finish. Or if a Notes database dies - the console recovery commands to fix it aren't widely known.

    Other than that I really like Notes ;-)

    @4 Raj, if you follow the link to Alan Lepofsky's site, you'll find plenty of references to free upgrade/deployment information.

    Thanks for pointing out the book... I've done a review or two for Packt, and they're always asking me if there's anything else I want to review. This would work... :)

    Last fall we upgraded 2 servers to 7.0, so we could take advantage of Web Services. This new ability has really changed how we think about Domino applications, and how they interact with other systems.

    For our mail, clients, and other servers, we've been waiting on 7.0.1. The 7.0 release was stable, but we avoid IT upgrades from Thanksgiving thru Skiing season, LOL.

    Anyway, we're deploying 7.0.1 next month.

    I've actually read this book, sent to me by PACKT, and it rocks - dare I say a good collaborative effort on behalf of some people that know a thing or two about collaboration. (Sorry...)

    I actually have a chapter for download, Chapter 3 in fact on DDM, available here:

    And a "first impressions" review here:

    It's a great book, a very simple read, and something that I would recommend to anyone that prefers to "read a book".

    Can't do anything without a Mac client :-(

    I know... 7.02 is on the way and with Mac Sametime support.

    I just ordered the book. After doing upgrades from R3 on, I always find it interesting learning those little "gotchas" that hamper a great upgrade.

    I would gladly have upgraded to 7.0 for our servers, I'm just waiting for internal politics to give me access to the BladeCenter they let me buy 2 months ago. It's sitting there all shiny and pretty, I just can't use it because the network admins are having too much fun playing.. err.. "testing"... with it.

    I have seen this book spammed on Notes.net a few times and commented about it there. There is an R7 upgrade guide on the Lotus Documentation site, finally (as of 1 Feb) available as a PDF { Link }

    It's nowhere near the scope of the Upgrading to ND6 Redbook, but at least it's a start. It does not include implementing many of the new features, but I'm comfortable with the coverage of those in other sources.

    @11 - which blade center are you useing and what os?? We have been deploying on first and second gen IBM blade centers and been have...ahh "fun"... seems like there are lots more problems then we had on stand alone boxes... I am much happier on our P series boxes then I am with the blades... We boot off the SAN and that seems to be where we have our issues...

    @12 let's take that offline, I'll e-mail you
