My friends in marketing have published a 4-page brochure covering the new Notes/Domino features coming in 7.0.2...

Downloadable from ibm.com here >

Beta of 7.0.2 started earlier this week.  About 400 beta customers participating.  I know some of you have asked me specifically about beta in the past... if you weren't part of the initial list, and you have a decent business-like reason to get into the beta, e-mail me at work with some specifics and I'll see what I can do.  PLEASE note - The 7.0.2 Notes client for the Macintosh platform will first be available in Beta 2  (later this month), and is not included in the Beta 1 release.

"Later this month" sounds good. I know some people rattling their cage. :-)

The brochure says "Lotus Notes and Domino 7.0.2 software will also expand participation in open standards through

added support for iCalendar, Domino eXtensible Language (DXL) and the HTML application

    programming interface."

What does "added support for" ... "HTML Application" mean?

I saw that Domino Next is supposed to bring an HTML API...maybe that's a preview of this...

    @2

Support for additional DXL design elements

New elements for Shared Columns, Shared File Resources, and Shared Stylesheet Resources have been added.

    User-defined HTML tag attributes

User-defined attributes can now be added to the <HTML> tag generated by the web engine. When the field $$HTMLTagAttributes is present on a form, its contents are placed in the attribute list of the <HTML> tag.

    Custom <!DOCTYPE> declaration

Users can now specify a custom <!DOCTYPE> declaration on a per form basis. When the field $$HTMLFrontMatter is present on a form, its contents will be placed in the generated HTML, ahead of the <html> tag, and the web server will not generate anything there automatically.

@1 thank you for overlooking the lack of screen shots in the snazzy brochure :-)

Do the Shared Stylesheet Resources refer to any CSS1 or CSS2 compliance inside the Notes Client?? Man would that be nice.

IBM is going to make life easier for Developers. Such HTML support is excellent. great. (Y)

The link to the additional information website on page 4 is correct, but clicking on it raises a 404 because of an additional space character at the end of the URL.

Is there an http link somewhere? Rotten office firewall won't let me get an ftp resource. I guess I'll take your word it's a snazzy brochure.

Based on review of the brochure, Macintosh support will include both 64-bit hardware and software support --> only for OS X/G5 or will it include support for Itanium processors (i.e. future 64 bit intel processors that will run on a Mac)?

Beyond this, many Mac users would like to see an OS X compatible version of Domino Server, Tools and the Designer client. Is this likely and if so, what would the time frame be?

    Thanks.

@9 There's not enough market for a Mac version of the Domino server. It's been looked at many times over the years. Designer, well, never say never, but it would be post-"Hannover" to even be considered.

As for the 64-bit support in the Mac client -- I don't know about Itanium. I'll have to look into that.
