I'm not sure anyone is going to believe me that this is a coincidence of timing, but today,Tuesday the 14th, IBM is publishing the announcement letter for Lotus Notes and Domino 8 (Thanks, Stu, for the TinyURL).

Now that the announcement is out there, what might be of interest within?

  • Shipping dates for languages.  Many languages will be available +35 days from English, earlier and faster than prior releases.
  • Subcapacity server licensing.  Don't say I never gave you anything :-)   I'll write more about this in the coming days.

Additional pieces of info in the announcement letter, directly or indirectly:
  • Pricing.  There is no change to the pricing model for Notes/Domino, other than the introduction of sub-capacity server licensing, with ND8.  Of course, final pricing is set by your reseller, your mileage may vary and all that, but the list pricing for ND8 remains the same as ND7.
  • Entitlements.  There are a number of limited entitlements coming with Notes/Domino 8, including Lotus Component Designer, WebSphere Portal, Tivoli Directory Integrator, DB2, and of course the existing Sametime instant messaging limited entitlement.  I'll write more about these in the coming days as well.

I won't quite pop the champagne, but this is going to be  a great week.
