As announced on August 10, the new Notes and Domino 8.5.2 release arrived earlier today, along with service availability of LotusLive Notes.  Notes/Domino 8.5.2 is a release primarily about reliability -- lots of fixes -- but with incremental improvements in the Notes client and significant forward progress for developers in Domino Designer.

The blogs are buzzing about the release, and some of the Design Partners and beta participants have blogged over the last few months about key new features.  I'm sure there will be a lot more now that the release is available and being deployed.

On the Notes client side, 8.5.2 adds some incremental improvements such as multithreaded replication, the ability to save individual emails to files, sharing of personal groups, and a preload module to improve startup time.  DWA/iNotes has several improvements such as iPhone 4 and Android support in ultra-light mode, iPad support, etc.  And Designer has a multitude of great new improvements for developers, including a new editor for XPages.

The downloads are still being staged -- seem to be working fine in PartnerWorld, not yet for all customers on Passport Advantage -- but should be shortly.  Stuart McIntyre has kindly listed out all the part numbers here.

Congratulations to the team on this important release.  It is no coincidence that today is also the day of service availability for LotusLive Notes, which I discussed extensively back on August 10.  Notes 8.5.2 contains important optimizations for LotusLive Notes users, and is the version that is included in a new LotusLive Notes agreement.  We're the only vendor providing a rich client as part of our SaaS/cloud messaging pricing, and it happens to be a great release of that client.

I would also like to clarify something I said at the IamLUG in St. Louis earlier this month, which seems to have since taken on a life of its own.  I said that 8.5.2 would be the last feature release of 8.5.x; some have mistakenly interpreted that to mean it would be the last maintenance release of 8.5.x.  We are working on an 8.5.3 release with a target of early 2011, and yes, there will be a few incremental improvements -- but mainly for developers in Designer/XPages.  For now, we are shifting future feature focus to the next major release of Notes/Domino, which is using IBM Project Vulcan as a blueprint.  Tons of activity going on in that space right now, and we'll start talking about what that release looks like with key audiences in Q4 and headed towards Lotusphere 2011.  We're also working on service updates for LotusLive Notes over the next few months in parallel; things will be busy from now to Lotusphere and beyond....

Congratulations to all the team !!

    And don't forget to add to the "card" the last useful attachment viewer from Bob Balfe { Link }

The US site appears to be having some issues with downloading the new release.

  1. 3  Bill Brown  |

Ed, can you give us some idea when Ubuntu 10.04 LTS will be supported by Notes? I'm still using 8.04 LTS to run my 8.5.1 client but would really like to move to 10.04. There are many improvements that would make my life better.

It would be nice to see support for 64 bit linux too.

IBM Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.2 for Linux English(CZJM6EN and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.2 Windows English eAssembly(CRC8VEN) not found on server(using download director, eventhough both are listed in the Passport Advantage Site).

Guess I will have to wait a couple of hours/days for Traveler's Linux version ?

By the way when are non English version available (they are not listed today in PA site ? Announcement Letter just sets a day for "media and documentation" in late October.

    Hi Ed, great news!

We are looking forward to see also domino designer and admin in Ubuntu, that's the only software that oblige people to still run a VM with Windows.

  1. 6  Elijah Lapson  |

For those having issues downloading (US) I have had better luck (so far) using the Ireland site.

    Elijah

  1. 7  Peter LaComb  |

@5 Most of what you get in the admin client works in a browser, and Firefox is supported.

  1. 8  Steve  |

@Ed - In a an email to me you said the downloads would be fully staged by Noon ET. The US Site is still not working, just tried again at 1:15PM ET. The Ireland site does work, but I'm getting poor download speeds and/or time outs. I guess I'll give up for today and try again tomorrow.

Also from your last paragraph it sounds like you guys are ready to move on from the 8.5.x release, I hope that's good news. I saw a demo of project Vulcan done by David Vai at MWLUG, it looked nice...a little like facebook, ok a lot like face book, but definitely different.

I hope the next release is better both in stability and usability. The 8.x and 8.5.x sure has had it's set of challenges.

  1. 9  Paul  |

Following up on Bill's comment about the 64 bit linux, I asked about the 64 bit release of Solaris at Lotusphere 2008 and was told that it would be looked at once 8.5 was released. We're now at 8.5.2 and there's still no details about when this is going to be available.

Files Not Found On Passport Advantage Server

I also received the "File Not Found" when trying to download the 8.5.2 admin/developer build for XP

Very very strong release. Congrats to all the folks involved.

  1. 13  Irv Schor  |

    @11 - Ditto here

  1. 14  WRJ  |

Im getting the same file not found on the US side. Ireland seems to be going a bit better. :)

  1. 15  Steve  |

I did manage to get the server and Admin/Designer client downloaded from the Ireland site in passport advantage, it was slow but eventually came thru.

I started testing and already have noticed some flakey activity with the client preferences and other things.

    1. Sometimes the preference window looses focus and disappears behind the notes session.

    2. The boasted save as .eml feature is a disappointment. It only allows you to save the email if you have it open, no right click from the view. Only available from File Save As.

    3. The client is now very pushy on setting a signature. Until you set one, the More Preferences automatically takes you to the signature. It also forces this from File, Preferences, Calendar, Access and Delegation...it takes you to the signature. Shouldn't it take you to the access and delegation.

    4. The icons for inbox, sent, folder etc sometimes disappear.

This is just my opinion and what I saw right away. This was a fresh install, not an upgrade, connecting to a bone stock fresh test server. All settings out of the box.

  1. 16  Bill Brown  |

Tip for anyone installing 8.5.2 on Ubuntu: Completely uninstall any fixpack before running the smartupgrade script. The install will throw a cryptic

******** Could not find Notes DEB package: ibm-lotus-notes-fixpack-8.5.2.i586.deb********

    error if you don't.

  1. 17  John Beal  |

Does this mean Traveler will support Android phones in early 2011 instead of "late 2010"? I have a lot of folks interesting in using Android phones via Traveler and would like to set appropriate expectations.

  1. 18  Henning Heinz  |

    @15 Steve

On Windows (and maybe on other OS too) you can drag and drop mails (works for more than one) from your view to the desktop (or a folder). You get nice .eml files.

  1. 19  Steve  |

@18, tried that at first and it didn't work it just created a notes url shortcut. Just tried it again and it did...?? Who knows.

  1. 20  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@17 Late 2010 is still our plan via a fixpack. Not waiting for 8.5.3.

  1. 21  Dale Chatwin  |

Ed .... will the LotusLive service update include access to blogs and wikis? I understand Communities is in this release but you really need blogs and wikis from Connections

  1. 22  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@21 expect to see continuous service updates... I can't pre-announce but soon.

  1. 23  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@4 we can't pre-announce language dates but we expect the first group in about 3-4 weeks and then the remainder in Q4.

  1. 24  Steven  |

As of 7:30pm EDT still nothing coming down at the US site, except Install Sheild Tuner! What a way to ruin my vacation!

  1. 25  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@24 It is working for my team...what about the Irish site?

  1. 26  alex  |

Still not working on the North American site.

  1. 27  Steven  |

Well, the US site is at lesat now failing with the long descriptive file names instead of the old fasioned part number only file names, so that is some progress. Ireland is still a pretty slow download.

  1. 28  Steve  |

@25 - Obviously we the customers don't work for your team or have access to the same tools you do. This morning 8/25, the download is still not working. But I guess if it's working for you and your team we all must be doing something wrong? Good planing IBM, this is a fantastic way to launch a new release! Keep up the good work.

  1. 29  Greg Zygadlo http://www.schange.com |

Tried this morning with passport advantage for customer sign in and got files not on server

  1. 30  Mike Kinder http://www.acadiasolutions.com |

@29 - same here Ed, there is definitely an issue.

  1. 31  Steve  |

@30, Nope, Ed said it's working for his team, you must be doing something...LOL, what a gigantic joke this is turning into!

  1. 32  Steven  |

Like others suggested, I changed the download site to Ireland. It came down fine while I slept.

  1. 33  Steve  |

IBM provides it's customers with a method to obtain the software they distribute, which isn't working. IBM made a formal announcement that the product would be available on 8/24/2010.

Sure the Ireland site might work, if you can get connected and don't get timed out or disconnected. But now, I'm left with a feeling of doubt. How is the customer supposed to put it's trust into a product when the method of delivery fails? Maybe it's just me but it doesn't instill confidence in the brand.

I've been using and administering domino for the past decade and I'm just getting tired of hearing the same story. Maybe passport advantage needs a fix pack!

  1. 34  Mark Davids  |

I was just asked by support whether I could upgrade my client to 8.5.2 to fix an issue, so they're already acting like this is available. But to any customers, it may as well not exist.

  1. 35  Alexandre De Ronne http://www.iptor.com |

Just finished downloading the R852 stuff, Win, Linux, iSeries servers, all clients, Traveler, ... at an amazing speed of 2.1 MB/sec. About 6 GB in one hour ! IBM, it is fast enough for me, no complaints.

  1. 36  Henning Heinz  |

@33 Steve if you have really been working with Domino for a decade then Passport Advantage should not have any impact on you.

Downloaded from the Ireland site on the 24th.

  1. 37  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@33/34 I do see sporadic reports of issues but mostly reports of success -- just look at dozens of bloggers and tweets reporting on new 8.5.2 capabilities yesterday. I am sorry you are having problems and my team is looking into it, but there isn't a wholesale problem as you seem to characterize.

  1. 38  David Peppard http://www.emp.com |

@36 Your post makes no sense at all. If the US site doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Any real site, especially a company as big as IBM, would automatically choose the best optimized site for your download based upon your location. In this case, that most likely would have failed because the US site is broken.

Ed, a leader does not make excused or give out lame answers. For the future, how about "you're right it is broken. we are on it and will have it fixed right away."

I still find it hard to believe the blind faith all of you Notes people put behind this team.

Also, Ed how about enabling inline comments so we don't have to learn how to use this site. IE @36. Next, we will be typing

    cls

    for x=1 to 10

    print "build better site"

    next x

@36 Take your blinders off and realize that other companies are doing it much better. We expect more from IBM. We pay more, they have more resources, experience, knowledge, etc, and we are continually let down.

  1. 39  David Peppard http://www.emp.com |

@37 Ed, one issue should be enough. Fix it. Don't act like one issue means nothing. It does. Get on it. I'm glad you don't work on the Notes support team. You would have been fired long ago.

  1. 40  Steve  |

@36 - Do not try to make this a personal issue. How does your comment even make sense? My issue is with IBM as a whole, completely ignoring the voice of the customer. They have been doing that for the past decade that I have been dealing with this product, if you can call it that. It didn't impact me, I have my test server running and have already started to find issues, also download on the 24th from Ireland. Do you think your extra smart because you figured out that switching to another site let you download. Yea, there we go, turn a blind eye to the real issue at hand, that the US Site is broken. Let's all jump on the IBM band wagon, and wear our yellow shirts and carry our Lotus Sphere back packs. IBM is a global company, the fact that they even hint or ask their customers to switch to another site to download the product that they have been so feverishly promoting is complete absurd. Their system should be intelligent enough to auto switch or fail over, oh clustering if you will, so that the customer is not inconvenienced in any way. Why is the customer alway wrong in IBM's eyes? Is it because the truth hurts?

  1. 41  David Jones  |

I've also had to switch away from using the US Site for downloads and get them from Ireland. Sure, it means the download will take longer but that's more of a minor annoyance then some horrible catastrophe that ruins my day. Different story though if IBM hadn't provided an alternate way to get the files.

  1. 42  alex  |

This is so frustrating. The North American site still isn't working. While the Irish site is working, but try as I might I can't find the url.

My day is busy enough as it is. I don't have time to spend hours trying to find a download site that should be easily visible or the North American site should just work.

  1. 43  Greg Zygadlo  |

Just tried again and using the download director along with the US Site, the java applet for the download director is hanging my browser. I'm going to try the Ireland site now.

  1. 44  Steve  |

    @Everyone-

So I should lower my expectations, is that what your saying? Silly me for thinking IBM should have a better method to get it's latest and greatest out to it's customers. If the Ireland site went down, then what? Would IBM consider carrier pigeons to deliver the CD's to my door step?

Shame on IBM for letting this happen in the first place and shame on everyone for not expecting more out of your software....THAT YOU PAY FOR. I guess that's why the Lotus Notes Product is in the shape it's in, everyone has lowered their expectations. And for anyone to say it's perfect, then you obviously have not ventured very far outside of your Lotus Sphere bubble!

  1. 45  David Jones  |

@42 - Above the "Download Now" and "I agree" or "I do not agree" section is a place where you can change your Download method and/or Download location. I would assume the site works the same for everyone but perhaps what you see is different.

  1. 46  David Peppard http://www.emp.com |

@41 David Jones, what company do you work for?

  1. 47  David Jones  |

@44 - No, I don't think you should lower your expectations but there are better ways to get your message across.

  1. 48  David Jones  |

A privately owned company in the Nashville, TN area. =) We're also only an IBM customer, not a business partner/design partner or whatever.

  1. 49  David Peppard http://www.emp.com |

Just curious because your comments seem to slightly defend IBM. They need to get off this blog and fix their problems.

  1. 50  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

Steve and David, I'm sorry you are having problems and I am looking into it.

  1. 51  Craig Wiseman http://www.wiseman.La/cpw |

Most of the bloggers get their downloads from PartnerWorld. Checking Passport Advantage now, @ 10:18am CDT 08/15, I get "not found on server" errors for 8.5.2 DLs.

    Passport Advantage == "Paying Customers"

  1. 52  Craig Wiseman http://www.wiseman.La/cpw |

    er, 08/25....

  1. 53  alex  |

@45. Thanks. that seems to be working, but it is slow. You know I never noticed that option during the downloads before.

  1. 54  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

Regarding the US download site, we did have a file staging failure yesterday which is being addressed now. Irish site (which is the "master") is working and has been all along. US site will work fully later today.

I apologize for the system issue.

  1. 55  Sean J  |

FYI the trial/ free download of Designer is still pointing to 8.5.1

    { Link }

  1. 56  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@55 we will soon update this to 8.5.2.

  1. 57  Steve  |

Well apparently Ed think's I'm the only one having any sort of issue and that there are no signs of a broad scale problem with the download. So we're back to IBM calling it's customers stupid, and telling them there is no issue.

So if you are having issues with the US Site, please report it so Ed can see it's a broader problem than just one customer.

  1. 58  David Jones  |

@57 - I can only assume you hadn't seen @54 before posting. If you had read it, read it again.

  1. 59  Craig Wiseman http://www.wiseman.La/cpw |

Ok, I'm an idiot (given). From passport advantage, how do you use the Irish site?

  1. 60  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

    @59 see @45

  1. 61  Craig Wiseman http://www.wiseman.La/cpw |

@60 Flew by that: by "location" I thought they meant location on the PC. Duh.

  1. 62  Bill Brown  |

I was telling a coworker about the Ireland download site. Her response was "Will it be in English?"

    No, everthing will be gaelic....

  1. 63  Steve  |

@58, nope, didn't see it, until after mine posted and the page refreshed.

Read it again, what for it's the same thing he told me in an email yesterday. Except yesterday he said the staging issue would be fixed by noon on 8/24. So I did read it again, and laughed.

I'm not even sure why I've spent so much time trying reason with any of you. You obviously don't get it. I'm going to go and pound my head against the wall and chant Lotus is great, Ed Brill is awesome until the US Site starts working...maybe it will help!

  1. 64  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@63 is there a reason the Irish download site isn't working for you?

  1. 65  Craig Wiseman http://www.wiseman.La/cpw |

@64/63 FWIW, the Irish site is working for me. Not sure what the big deal is with .having. to us the US site.

  1. 66  Steve  |

@64, No Ed, it works just fine, I has stated that before. I used it and got the items to start testing. Obviously you still don't get it so let me paraphrase it this way.

How can you sit there and pretend that an entire half of your deployment mechanism being down is not an issue?

How can you say IBM is offering sound products and services?

Does this type of outage speak to experiences users of Lotus Live might expect to see? Will part or all of the system be down and you'll tell the customer too bad, so sad, pick another server?

I've been with Notes for a long time so has my company, and I just keep seeing the same repeat issues, time and time again. Every support call is always the same, assume the customer is wrong, ask them to supply you with log file, tell them it will be fixed in the next release, maybe supply a hot fix if enough people scream about the issue. Or find a solution yourself.

Then the next release does come out and you try to be supportive of the product and put together a deployment plan for your company. Things go down hill fast when you see "File Not Found On Server CZIP9EN". What JV on the dev team wrote that message?

Give me a call sometime, I'd love to discuss some of my experience past and present. You have my contact info from the email we exchanged.

  1. 67  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

Steve, I explained that it was an issue, that it was being corrected. What I do with that information internally in IBM is definitely not something I am going to discuss on a public blog. I don't have any free time in my schedule in the next few days but I will find time to contact you to discuss.

  1. 68  Mike Robinson http://www.invcs.com |

@15, please you're kidding right? THe File Save is a killer feature and one that is much better than the Outlook way of doing it which saves to a proprietary MSG format. You can tick off one or more docs and save to a file system target as nice EML messages which you can open in almost any program. What's very cool is you can email these things around as attachments and double click them and open them in most email clients with very good fidelity

  1. 69  Larry  |

The US Passport site is still not working. The Irish site does work.

  1. 70  Steve  |

@68 - Not saying I didn't like the feature, just surprised that you couldn't right click an email and do a send to or save as. Another person pointed out that you can drag and drop the message to where ever. Which is nice and that seems to work ok.

I did notice if you get a bounce back delivery failure it does not function the same way. If you drag one of those expecting it to save as eml, it doesn't, it gets saved as a notes url? I know most people would say why would you want to save those, why not? So my question out of that is, are there other types of messages that wont be able to be saved as eml files? What is determining what can and can't be saved?

Also can this feature be disabled and enforced by an Admin? What if we don't want users to store emails outside of the email environment.

  1. 71  Steve  |

Follow up to the save as eml, there is a Desktop Settings, Preferences, Miscellaneous, then Drag and Drop Save as eml setting that can be enabled or disabled and enforced. Nice to see that is available.

  1. 72  Mark Demicoli http://www.ClickBook.net |

Stop badgering IBM and Ed and move to Ireland if it's so important just a few hours after release.

  1. 73  Bradley  |

I am just catching up on this and... Man there are some whiners out there. My god people, it is a software update (a point release even) not the cure for a global disease. Let's keep things in perspective, n'kay.

If it takes a little bit longer to download, then oh well. The world will not come to an end and I am pretty confident that your business will not go into liquidation because it took a few hours more before you got 8.5.2. Ed said they were working on it... nuff said.

My first attempt at the download did the same thing, so I too switched to Ireland site and away we went.

Thank you Ed (and many others) for your support and passion for those that bleed yellow. Viva la Lotus!

And to those belly-achers; build a farking bridge.

    Cheers!

@73 - have you ever had an opinion of your own or have you drank too much of the yellow cool aid that you are now part of IBM's marketing scheme. How many back packs do you have, do you dream of little orange people holding hands in a circle...yep bet you do.

  1. 77  Bill Greenberg - Good Computer Guy http://www.goodcomputerguy.com |

Well, it WAS pretty frustrating to keep trying to download the software for a client and keep getting that somewhat cryptic file not on server message. Kind of amateur for a giant company like IBM dealing with knowledge software, isn't it? Then again I've always found the website horrendous to use.

Anyway, I finally got around to reading the comments on this thread and found there was another download site (Ireland.) The speed from there was surprisingly fast and I have what I need now. I think. It's still fairly complicated to hunt through and find exactly what files you need.

It's Wednesday Evening. After a Dozen tries I give up. I keep having to start from the beginning when passport advantage dumps me on a page not found with each attempt and I cannot navigate back.

I suggested some time ago, either replace passport advantage with something simple or put Domino products on their own site where they can actually be accessed and updated with ease.

P.S. Just for comparison sake, I went to see how difficult it would be to get the latest MS Exchange update. Search, Found, Click, download started.

The Irish site is now downloading the file backwards :P

  1. 88  Joel http://mikeyblueeyes.blogspot.com |

This somewhat goes back to the conversation last week about how well IBM is promoting Notes/Domino. It came up because I was looking to test with 8.5.2 as I have an engagement coming up with a client who has several Domino versions installed, including 8.5.2, which they are putting on a development server now... thus, I took the normal route (or for me, the route I have always taken to obtain evaluation software from the website):

From the devworks page here https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/ I click the link to get the download. Click the download link on the next page. Click the Download Domino Designer button on the next page. Then I can use the radio button and download the designer.

First problem is: too many click-through pages to get to the one with the actual download.

Bigger problem is: other methods/link paths go to the download for the Notes client. That page says Notes/Domino at the top, but you can only download the client:

    https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/download.do?source=ESD-NTSDOMTRL&S_PKG=CRCJ5EN&S_TACT=109BH31W&S_CMP=web_dw_rt_swd_bod&lang=en_US&cp=UTF-8

A bigger problem is that the menu at the top of the site (support and downloads) links to a page on downloads which has a link for all of IBM's products (or many). Selecting Lotus Domino shows the download from Jan 2009 for 8.5. Lotus Notes links to the 8.5.2 multi-platform and other older versions. The Lotus Domino Designer link has only R7.

Short version here is a term we had in the marines which began with the word cluster. The second half is best left for a bar. It was easier to obtain the software back when there was a very long list of all of the releases on the download page. This is IBM for crying out loud. This has also LONG, LONG been a complaint about IBM's web presence.. there is no cohesiveness to the website. How many developers work there, Ed? I realize that sales don't directly come from such initiatives, and that with the size of IBM and the multiple groups involved in everything that change comes only slowly, but this problem with basic design flow involved in linking to product downloads has existed for AT LEAST five years (I know because I wrote a similar rant about it in 2004 or 2005). It simply baffles me that some director at IBM can't take charge of cleaning up all the issues like this on the website and pushing a project to address them. New developers don't want to be sent to dead-ends when they're trying to download your product for evaluation or to learn. They don't want to have to hunt for tools they may need. Even Microsoft makes it easier for developers to locate the software they need.

Well I've had a full day to play with Notes and Designer 8.5.2 and I am super impressed with the speed improvements across the board. Designer is MUCH more usable now. So all those who had issues with sluggishness and quirks, IBM has done a great job in working through them. I've used designer for a full day now and basically have just about been able to work "as fast as I can", very similar to the old non-eclipse designer days.

It's very exciting and I can see great strides are being made in stability and usability.

Hi Ed, the Domino Directory Independence feature has been talked about for quite some time. It was originally talked about in 8.5, then 8.5.1, and then it was slipped to 8.5.2.

I think it is still not available on this new release.

When do you think it will be available?

    Thanks.

    @90 : It's been scrapped. See { Link }

Do you still incremental installers (8.5.1 > 8.5.2) ? Can't find them anywhere.

I'm glad it's out there now. Well done. We have been working with the new 8.5.2 Designer for a few days and have discovered some bugs in the way that cut and Paste actions work in the xPages GUI (not present in 8.5.1). I've posted a description on our blog in case anyone else has experienced the same issue and wants to correspond or finds a workaround.

8.5.2 is not stable enough. I have seen quite a number of issues with this version and I think I might have to go back to 8.5.1 which was more stable and worked quite well. This is strange because normally I have seen improvements when upgrading to a newer Notes version. This time it's been a disappointment.

@92 I have also been looking for the incremental installer from 8.5.1 -> 8.5.2 couldn't find it either :S

I think 8.5.2 notes setup launcher is different than 8.5.1.

If I try to make Lotus notes 8.5.2 silent version with mst file using Install shield tuner, It doesn't work well.

    I did update setup.ini files's cmdLine=

Normally when I check setup.exe properties on 8.5.1 , it shows

Setup Launcher, but in case of 8.5.2 is not showing Setup Launcher, so I think 8.5.2 is not work with installshiled tuner.

    Hi,

really good, now one month ago 8.5.2 was released, but where are the release notes?

    https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/documentation/releasenotes/ shows only 8.5.1

    Greetings

    Chris

Unfortunately, the new Save As .eml feature is causing me a lot of grief. Our legal department is refusing to let me continue deploying 8.5.2 until it can be completely disabled. The policy setting only lets me disable the drag&drop, but the option to Save As from an open email still works. I have a call into IBM, but I'm not hopeful. Very frustrating.

Ed, do you have a move specific time when 8.5.3 will be released? I am currently preparing to upgrade to 8.5.2 fp 1, if 8.5.3 if a month away, I wouldn't mind waiting a few more weeks.

    Regards,

    Hamid

We are using Traveler with 30 phones and these are the most common two requests I get:

    1. Sync the Lotus Notes client Journal.nsf/Notebook.nsf with the Notes App on the iPhone. Or, just take it from the mail file if the user manually syncs. I came from a company that had Blackberries and the Journal would sync with the device. This would be a great added feature.

    2. Allow the the administrator to point traveler to a specific address book when iPhone users go to Lotus Notes Traveler Global... under Groups. Currently it uses the default address book for that server. I would like to taylor make an address book just for Traveler access. I can add customers, vendors and employees not in the current address book AND I can remove some of the people from the current address book that should never be contacted but need to be in the current address book.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

    Thanks,

    Quin

Has anyone had the following problem? I have a Windows 7 pro laptop running both Notes client 8.5.2 and a Dom server. Several months ago I upgraded from 8.5.1 (which runs flawlessly) to 8.5.2. Immediately on the server I get "HTTP Server: Error loading Java Virtual Machine, and HTTP Server: JVM Missing Entry in JVM runtime library. HTTP then shuts down. If I unload 8.5.2 and reload 8.65.1 server it runs fine. I loaded the 2 fixes that have come out and they did nothing to resolve the problem. I really need 8.5.2 server so I can run the xPages extension library. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

I used Lotus Notes 8.5.2 with Ubuntu 10.04 and it works great.. I haven't used it with 11.04 yet since I'm not using Ubuntu anymore.

I also used Lotus Notes 8.5.2 with Mandriva 2010.1 and it worked great, but after a Mandriva upgrade Lotus Notes stop working.. The problems is that I just can't see any email at all or any other window except instant messagin listings.

I am now using Mageia Linux (Mandriva's Fork) and Notes also doesn't show any email... I just see scrambled windows.

It is annoying to see a professional application like Lotus notes fail everytime a GTK update is done, and all other GTK applications work flawless.
