As already highlighted this morning by Alan Lepofsky, the trial editions of Notes 8 and Domino 8 are now available for download.  The trial download link is about 2/3rds down the page.

Good Job! However I think the trials come way too slow after the gold release. What's the big deal, just add the 90 day check already in the main code. Lets assume I wouldn't have bought Domino, then how could I say to my customers "hey check out domino 8", as they cannot download the beta nor the trial. There should be ALWAYS, at any given point of time a possibility to download either the latest beta or the trial, and no time gap between.

Agree with Mika. IBM is really turning off some potential customers (especially SMBs) by not offering trials, or offering them late. And i simply can't think of any sane reason why ? It would be sooooo easy.

And besides, where are the trials for Quicker, Connections, SameTime RTC-Gateway. Why don't you let everybody get hands-on experience with these tools ?

Come on guys ... the trial is out just over 30 days from release. This slight delay is not going to cause any lack of sales. In some cases, we have seen the lack of a downloadable trial be a boon for Business Partners, as it had customers calling us for in person demos.

The trial is out. Let's move on and focus on the good. There are far better things to focus our criticism on towards IBM than this right now.

@2 I am not sure I agree. Some products do not mandate trials, like the gateway. It does one thing and either you want it for that thing or you don't. Quickr and Connections have online trials in the Greenhouse (greenhouse.lotus.com), so there's far less need for a trial download.

As for this 30 day gap for Notes/Domino trial, we'd sure like our paying customers and cherished partners to get access to code first, then those who are not yet enlightened. :-)

Greenhouse? been trying to get into it since before Lotusphere last year, I think it went live in December. And I am a BP and on some other pieces of the puzzle.

Imagine what a customer must do?

@4: It was more than 30 days between Beta 3 and the Trial, but Ok I see it also as a selling tactics to provide only the full version between those trial versions.

Sure we need Quickr Demo! Greenhouse???

Why do you guys hide it?

You can not even find it through the IBM site search function, i only see 'Many Eyes'.

Why can't i find a link on the Quickr productpage to Greenhouse. A few months ago I also requested also access to greenhouse; never had a response.

    Please update { Link }

great blog, super new products, bright future ;-)

ps2: did you now that the 'number 8' in China also stands for wealth and prosperity? Might be interesting for a marketing campaign.

Speaking for product team, IBM have to deliver many product items and platforms for delivery including translations. Its a simple matter of logistics - the same testing and other resources are involved in building trials. We either hold everything up for the trial or we get the full product out for paying customers first. Holding the product up for paying customers is not a business decision that made any sense to dev team.

Does anybody have an idea where can I download the Domino Administrative CLient v8?

There is no such item on trial download page, although it claims that on page <subject>.
