Planning the closing session
January 25 2006
I just came from the second planning meeting
regarding tomorrow's closing session. I'm not going to give anything
away, but
a) You'll like the comedian
and
b) Something will happen for the first
time ever at Lotusphere.
I'll blog more tonight after Seaworld.

first time ever? We can come up with a huge list. Code release the final day of the conference, cd's with utilities as free giveaways, discount passes to next year to all attendees, we can go on and on.

Just finished a conference call with Bill G. and Sara R. They tell me that b) is: No dates for next year will be announced. This was the final Lotusphere, Notes is dead. ;-)

"I'll blog more tonight after Seaworld?" Ed, isn't your family with you now? Take a break, you deserve it.

Hi Ed,
One idea to broaden the Lotusphere audience is to host the recordings (and possibly video) on a web site like VMware has done { Link }

Vista source code, Intel Based Macs, hannover beta cds, announcment your dropping support on the server side for Windows. Well, exec's dropping in from the ceiling has already been done ..... but that was in the OGS.
@8, or better still, 5.25" floppies and all the session audio recordings on 8-Track tapes.
And Ed, I am really glad to see that is 1:06 in the morning, and you DID NOT BLOG after SeaWorld. My faith in humanity is restored for now.

You'll announce the next Lotusphere is in Europe! ... *please*

@11 no, but as with 2005, IBM is going to partner with DNUG for the May DNUG/IBM Lotus Technical Forum. May 15-17 in Karlsruhe, Germany. More info (for now, mostly auf Deutsch) at { Link }

@11 + 12 Lotus really should consider hosting a REAL Lotusphere in Europe. At present it feels like we are the poor relations. Many of us work for companies who are unwilling to send us to Disney World / Sea World, but would be more willing to send us to something in this continent (ok, we'd be lucky to be sent to the corner shop at this company).

@13 What are you looking for in an event that you don't feel you'd get from the combined IBM+DNUG one?

Adam G | 1/26/2006 9:36:38 AM
@14 A tough one to answer. I guess theres: the prestige, the excitement / anticipation of announcements (its all old news by the time it comes to europe, the experience and atmosphere, the scale of it all.. I could go on. At the end of the day, its not Lotusphere. Theres something special about Lotusphere. And Lotusphere suggests its a global thing, whereas in reality its kind of like the World Series - it pretends to be global but in all reality is US only (and unlike baseball, the rest of the world is actually interested).
I guess we feel we are missing out.
some free yellow boxing gloves might go some way to appease me :-)

@15 I pulled that stunt once this week already. ;)
As for new news -- we announced the next version of Notes, "Hannover" at the IBM+DNUG event in 2005. That seems like pretty big news.
I'd like more input on this -- we are having an IBM+DNUG event planning meeting today (!) as a kick-off, so this is a good timing thing.

@16 Ed:
EuropeSphere needs to be several days and offer a lot of the more popular sessions that LotusSphere offered - say the top 10 that had overflow! (I guess Ed will be run off his feet again then!)
At least showing the tapes at sessions and having good Q&A representatives after each showing - even if via Sametime 7.5 VoIP with Video (hint!) would be excellent!

Graham Tucker | 1/26/2006 10:13:13 AM
@16 Ed, one other thing that I don't get the impression the IBM+DNUG has (but I could be wrong) is meeting all the "Stars" of the Notes world such as yourself, many of the bloggers to the left and other Notes people. Whilst the presentations are certainly the most important aspect of Lotusphere, the ability to meet people who you comunicate with on-line, in a more social atmosphere can't be ignored for the benefits in building a larger IBM/Notes community that supports each other and can push this product further through sharing ideas etc.

Roberto Boccadoro | 1/26/2006 10:23:01 AM
@18 - Ed was there last year, as were lots of "stars". I agree though that the number is limited compared to what you can get in the US

Dammit, I'll miss the closing session, I'll be on the way to the airport. Not so worried about missing the comedian (because I'm guessing it's NOT Harry Hill), but I'm intrigued by the "something will happen for the first time ever at Lotusphere". I have instructed my colleagues to stock up with rotten fruit just in case --- name removed for legal reasons --- turns up.

Hello Ed,
Great conference, but as you mention it please allow me to comment on the comedian
>>You'll like the comedian
The comedian was (again) great for the american audiance. However, I think most people from other countries get at the most 2/3rd of the jokes and find only at 1/3 of the jokes funny.

All attendees will receive a free iPod?
