My colleagues in education programs have recently announced an update to the Notes/Domino 8.5 certification paths. The new exams will be available next month, in September 2011, and have reduced the number of exams that an individual needs to pass from three down to two. The new paths are:

IBM Certified Application Developer - Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5
Pass Application Development Core Exam 1 covering the classic Domino environment AND
Pass Application Development Core Exam 2 covering developing applications with XPages and advanced development skills

IBM Certified System Administrator - Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5
Pass System Administration Core Exam 1 covering installing and configuring the administration environment AND
Pass System Administration Core Exam 2 covering managing and maintaining the environment

A single upgrade test will grant certification on Notes/Domino 8.5 to those who were certified for Notes/Domino 8. And of course if you are already certified, your status remains unchanged and unaffected.

More detail can be found on the Certification Programs page.

Did they remove all the content about NSFDB2?

@Nathan, Yes. We've focused on removing questions of little relevance or are simply outdated - NSFDB2 being one area

@Jim - Does that apply to the upgrade exam from 7 to 8?

Hope it will remail a little more challanging than the questions asked by the department of homeland security: "Are you a bad guy? yes/no"

I do understand that we need more experts, but when shortening the certification path on one side, hopefully doesnt mean its more simple. also here should be an higher level (advanced) being introduced or improved in its quality.

@Vitor As far as i know it's only the 8.5 exams. I don't believe they are going to revise the older exams but I will confirm.

@Thomas The goal is to have more relevant questions and also less "recall" type questions.

is the NSFDB2 content also removed from the upgrade exam to 8?

we have a lot of developers still on Notes 7 and we have never used DB2 with Notes.

What happens to someone who has now 2 exams and is on the way to the third? Have I to take part in both new exams? Or should I now pass the third as fast as possible? Or will I receive the "Certified Administrator" automaticly, because I have pass already two exames (which would be the option I prefer ;-) )?

    @7 the linked page states

"Scenario 2: A professional has passed the first two core tests in either stream

Best Option: Take the third core test before the end of the year"
