At least I'm not the only messaging vendor who wonders "where's the value" with Exchange 2007...

it seems like an incremental move from the existing versions. Microsoft seems somewhat aware of some the major issues with Exchange, but the product changes are nods towards those issues rather than solutions of them. ...

How does this look to a customer? Well, for the customer, Microsoft have failed to solve the core problems; they have failed to make the system more open; and they are yet again increasing complexity and price. Customers want the compatibility of Exchange but they also want simplicity, fair pricing, low cost infrastructure, and openness to third-party solutions. Right now, Exchange customers seem in a mutinous mood over Exchange-12. The product seems much more likely to destabilize the Exchange customer base than win Microsoft any plaudits.
Not just conjecture...they take a look at specifics in the full blog entry.
