Twisted security patch

October 3 2006

Last night, my PC faithfully downloaded the latest Microsoft Windows security patch from IBM's automated system.  Because of the severity of the issue, IBM forced the installation and then an automatic reboot.  Imagine my surprise when, upon reboot, my Windows password no longer worked.  No, I didn't have capslock on, nor did I forget the password...Windows just kept reporting that I was entering the incorrect password.  Thus, the couple of hours of work I intended to get done last night never happened, and I spent a few hours in morning traffic actually going to an IBM office for IT to work their magic on it.

Somehow I never thought that a security patch was designed to make my PC so secure that I can't log into it, but I suppose that's one way to avoid problems.
