An update on upcoming events and travel....

Tomorrow, I'll be in Denver for the CoLUG (Colorado Notes User Group) meeting.  Actually, there's a very cool IBM Lotus Open Labs thing going on all day, and I'm just tagging in at the end.  Details on LotusUserGroup.org or CoLUG's site.

Next week, the big deal is the Lotus Advisor Summit, August 27-31 in Phoenix.  I won't be there, but who needs me when you've got 20 high-quality speakers converging in the desert.  See Andrew Pollack's blog for details.

Collaboration University is the big event in September, both in Kansas City and London.  Check it out for deep technical information on Lotus Sametime and Lotus Quickplace, including an early look at Quickplace 8.

I will be travelling down under in mid-September (10 to 19 September), visiting Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne, Australia as well as Wellington and Auckland, New Zealand.  The local user groups, where they exist or are restarting, already have events scheduled for this trip.  I believe there's a public event in almost every city.  So if you are in ANZ and are looking for info on local events next month, let me know.  I'm still debating as to whether my mid-trip weekend is in Melbourne or Wellington... those seem to be my only realistic options based on flight schedules (much as I'd love to visit New Zealand's south island, at least to visit Michael Sampson.  Will have to be another time...).

I've also signed up to speak at Admin 2006 Europe, 29 November to 1 December in Wien, Österreich (Vienna, Austria).  I love Vienna, and this will be the first time I'm there for work.  I've already been on the metro, though...

There are a couple of other October visits to Europe being worked on, so if I end up availablogging, you'll know why.

Oh and did I mention Lotusphere 2007?

If I can just plug the Scottish Notes user group meeting on September 7th in Edinburgh. eMail Darren_Adams@uk.ibm.com for more information...

    Cheers,

I'd be interested to hear if you're meeting in Brisbane at all ...

    Cheers

Ed, we are looking forward to you speaking at the Lotus User Group in Melbourne - September 14 - details available from LUG@ATPRO.com.au - the Web site is being launched soon.

    Ed,

I thought that the Canberra and Sydney user groups had shut down. Can you post the details of your public events in Australia? I'm with Darren about wanting to hear if you organise anything in Brisbane.

In regards to planning your mid-trip weekend I would highly recommend Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road in favour of Wellington. I've been to Wellington probably 30 times and there really isn't much to see and do there. Be warned that which ever place you go to can still be cold in September.

I second Ethann (even if I do live in Wellington). There is not so much to see compared to Melbourne (unless you know how to arrange a visit to PJs studios :)

Enjoy your trip and hope to see you at the Wellytown even.

When and where are you scheduled for Sydney?

Actually my e-mail address has a dot (.) in the middle, not an underscore. We're hoping to make an announcement about the rejuvination of a UK User Group soon. Well, soon-ish. The interest in the Scottish event has been fantastic - we have a lot of loyal important customers in Scotland and therefore we'll be keeping the Scottish arm of any UK-wide group that gets set up. That way there will be continued events in Scotland but they'll also be invited to participate in other events elsewhere in the UK.

@Bill/Daz - Thanks for the SNUG reminder, it was off my radar since I can't get there. Apologies.

@Brisbane - Right now, Brisbane is just a "day trip" stop on Monday, 11 September. The last flight to Sydney is at 8:40 PM, but at least at the moment, my schedule is done at 4 PM. If I could arrange something in the IBM office at 4:30 or 5 for 90 minutes, would that be considered useful? I'll e-mail you as well.

@Sydney - Tuesday, 12 September, IBM St. Leonards, 5 PM. I'll send you the invite when it's final (from Karen Bagiotas).

@MEL vs. WLG -- Yes, the Great Ocean Road is something I've wanted to do for years. I've been leaning towards Melbourne for that reason alone.

  1. 9  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@8 Brisbane -- actually, there are two sessions scheduled during the daytime on 11 September. I'll post more details soon.

I look forward to your talk in Denver :)

Can't wait for the event this work. We have filled all the slots but more are welcome it should be one great event and the to top it all off Ed is going to wrap it up and entertain all of us in Denver. Safe Travels!

Enjoy your trip. Hopefull you will get some "tourist time" in while you're there as an extra return for all that you've given the community over the years. Never been to either country, but I'm planning on spending 10 days in NZ next summer, probably in Auckland to play. If you're feeling adventurous, try this:

or this if you ever get down south, as I hear the view is breathtaking:

However, I hear the best jumps are out of Auckland, getting out of the plane over the water.

  1. 14  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@13, well, I don't want to add extra flights to be in Auckland over the weekend. Really if I am going to do New Zealand properly, I'd like to have a long trip, not just a weekend.

    Of course, if I could be there this week... { Link }

Europe in October ... Too late for the meeting of the atnotes user group on 2nd and 3rd of September in Kassel (Yes we are doing this oin our own in in Spare time). You could go there before the SNUG meeting Bill mentioned if you would go there... *smile*

  1. 16  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@15 no way I can spend three weeks of September on the road, but...thanks for the suggestion!

  1. 17  Michael Sampson http://www.michaelsampson.net |

South Island definitely! You've never been here ... and if you visit my house, you'll get to use your Bose noise cancelling headset outside of the plane too!

The guest room is made and ready. Let me know when you're arriving.

    :-)

    Hi Ed

Please keep me posted on the details of your Sydney event. I would be interested in attending with a colleague.

    thanks

    Andrew

  1. 19  Adeleida  |

Hi Ed - are you still making it to Toronto on the 23rd?

  1. 20  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@19 unfortunately no, that has been pushed to early September (if I go at all). I did let Stan know...

  1. 21  Malcolm Barr  |

    Ed,

I suggest The Great Ocean Road, overnighting in Warnambool (it's about 5-6 hours drive to do it properly) and you can check out the whales at Logans Beach { Link } I'll send a couple of photos I took in March to your email.

I have recently moved to Canberra from Melbourne and would normally have gone to the Melbourne event. Can you tell me if you have anything planned for Canberra?

    Cheers, Mal.

  1. 22  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@21 thanks for that, I'll reply to your mail in a bit. As for Canberra, my day in Canberra is booked with individual customer meetings. That's the one city where we don't have time for any kind of event.
