A Microsoft blogger describes changes coming in Microsoft Access 12.  vowe picks up the salient point:

Access shares something with Notes: an MDB, much like a Notes NSF, contains a full application with data and UI and code. So this is how Microsoft wants to make SharePoint available offline. It's not Groove, it's Access.
So I'm not sure whether to say "make room for another checkerboard square" or "does that now make 17 products required to build a collaboration solution on Microsoft products?".
