On a US holiday, Jan Kenney is incredibly responsive and posted this:

Some of the IBM Lotus Notes/Domino 7 and Extended Products GA files have been temporarily removed from the download site in order to correct a problem with the distribution site. They will be back online soon (within a couple of days). Those who have downloaded the ND7 GA product already should download and install the restored files, once they are available, in order to ensure they've received a properly distributed product. A notice will be posted in this forum when the download files are back online. We apologize for this inconvenience.

    Hello Ed,

    what a nice fairytale. ;-)

    Will someone tell the truth?

I think I will tr to find out the difference between the both installations when the "new" old files are available again.

    Regards from Berlin.

    Dear Ed,

I agree with Michael, could you(or IBM) please tell us what exactly is going on. I have upgraded Domino on 3 servers allready so I really want to know what exactly is wrong with my install package.

    Thanks!

    Regards,

    A Vermeulen

Oh...and I have also upgraded Sametime and some Notes clients

If it were severe, IBM would say so. Ed's already said *there will be* something *officially posted*. I've been running about a dozen servers upgraded since Friday with no problem, so let's not worry and just follow the instructions.

It's not a code issue. I'm working to get a better statement posted.

Perhaps the same person that did the packaging for the Sametime service pack is responsible for this too?

In that case, it was a not a code issue, but a packaging issue with languages. Sadly it took 3 attempts to get that right. Hopefully this will be a bit quicker.

I think the key thing people want to know though, is will they have to reinstall the R7 they have already upgraded, hopefully when this is cleared up that will be crystal clear. That information was never published for the Sametime service pack fiasco so customers were left very confused.

Outside of the Windows server code not having an icon and no properties on multiple downloads, it did run the installer. I have a few clients and the server code installed and would like to know what if anything is wrong beyond superficial items. Thanks for pursuing this, Ed.

I mean. This a .0 release of something which codebase has been touched by a lot of hands along the years.

An Admin has to have a *very* good reason to install a .0 release on production sites. I would suspect that such people simply don't care about a profesional test process. What do they think?

IBM has born this new baby jesus called notes 7.0 and I have to install it as soon as having heard the happy news of its arrival among us mere mortals?

Oh Domino community. 50% is running 5.0, 20% 4.6 because for 8 years or so they are searching for ways to get rid of OS/2 and the other 30% is simply installing anything when its there.

Well, we installed ND7 as we're a product development company, and of course have to certify and validate that the new code works. And - since our entire environment went ND7 within three hours of the code shipping, we've found it to be stable, robust, etc.

Okay - a handful of developers on hugely overspecified machines of varying platforms is by no stretch of the imagination a real test case. And yes, you'd have to have a very very good reason to go .0 release.

However, in our defense, we've seen some extremely stable code come out of Westford in the last three years, and since the betas were very stable (aside from one incoming SMTP bug), had no reservations in doing so.

And I know of at least one company planning on going ND7 in the next few weeks - basically because they're on v5 right now, and in the middle of an upgrade project - one they dont want to revisit in 6-12 months time. Which I guess is fair.

N7/D7 is very solid and plays well with other D6/N6 servers/clients. We are certifying our anti-spam product which is on all Domino platforms. So far so good.

Ah the fun of statistics... @8 care to share where you get your %'s from?

  1. 12  Axel Janssen  |

@9: this is of course a good reason. I said that people without good reason who are complaining. You qualify for none of both.

@11: this are my own random estimations. No serious statistics. There are simply way too much still on 4.5 or 5 at least in my country (joke of the G8--Germany)

They appear to be back now - thanks!
